I just hear 3rd product cycle come directly from a top lincoln guy-- couple levels below Farley-- I was only speculating on how long each cycle would be. (5 years per cycle maybe?)... the first of which were in now.

Anyone have any strong opinion on the future success in China? Their appetite for American cars seems to be strong-- considering the Germans stronghold in the Europe luxury market (80 pct marketshare)-- it's hard not to think Lincolns future as a true global luxury brand rests heavily on their success in China.

RWD- Recently heard top brass from Lincoln comment RWD could be in the planning pipeline for the third product cycle..10-15 yrs? Hard to imagine what the luxury market will look like that far down the road.

Will Ford learn from GM ignition switch fiasco
md3184 replied to Joe771476's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
The only documents I know of purposely destroyed after a short period of time are tax documents related to the formation of certain holding companies offshore to receive favorable tax treatment--in the event of an audit it would be difficult to prove the intent of tax avoidance. I suppose this same protection could apply to potential defect documents. -

SOX increased retention periods for documents related to public filings (10-K, Q, etc) for internal financials and external audit work papers. Makes sense no? Why would they reduce retention periods if the intent of the law was to improve transparency? Also, I went through the companies annual file review (AFR) at Ford last week and the minimum retention period I saw on any class of document was 7 years (greater than two years old moved offsite). -
Ford Ditching Microsoft for Blackberry
md3184 replied to mackinaw's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
To the poster that commented the execs all use blackberrys and this decision may be related, I would comment--the leadership team will no longer be using blackberry in the next month. Ford IT top brass announced the company will no longer support the blackberry enterprise server for corporate email. This seems incompatible with the mytouch decision and their current / future partnership with RIM. iOS and android are clearly inferior went it comes to email so this decision baffled me. -
MKZ Cool feature - automatically goes into Park...
md3184 replied to entropy's topic in Lincoln Motor Company Discussion
I think the triggr is opening the door not any weight sensor. I've noticed this a few times when exiting a car wash and at a low rate of speed opening my car door (as compared to rolling down the window) to hand an attendent a ticket; the car is forced into park. -
I don't think louisville is near capacity; the MKC has not been put on hold. I just heard Jim Farley comment a few weeks back at the earnings annoucement and town hall meeting for world hq employees that the MKC was a critical component of the Lincoln revival. Also, I have a co-worker who just transferred from WHQ to the louisville plant and commented they were preparing for production (timing uncertain).

where do you see anything in the report about the lincoln coupe? This is largely speculation and has been de-bunked numerous times by Ford exec's both publically and to company employees; this was a frequent question at world headquarters the past year during Mullay, Farley, and Raj (VP of prod development) Q&A sessions. http://www.autonews.com/assets/PDF/CA79578516.PDF

no that's the concept as you mentioned (trimmed door handles, etc). production model probably a long way off.

The MKC was spotted at the world headquarters today; quite a site to be seen. My fiance is eager to purchase as well - if she is still interested in the Fall I will probably avoid the traditional pre-order. Many lessons to be learned from others on this forum. My dealer stock converted to a pre-order was one of the first on the road. I would likely pursue the same route for the MKC.

How Much Money Is Ford Spending On Detroit Fireworks?
md3184 replied to bobbyd's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
Company debt is more like 14B (excludes FMCC) and their are right-sizing their balance sheet with a mid-decade target of 10; very reasonable for a company of its size. The company is doing fine as another poster said. I have faith they are allocating resources in a way that supports profitable growth for all stakeholders ...including retirees. -
GM just announced today they're teaming with AT&T to offer 3G and faster Wi-Fi in vehicles. The original posters comments do not seem that far fetched or silly afterall.

Full article and on the front page of the automotive news last week - the premiere publication in detroit. I'd say that's good coverage and not any indication Ford is flying under the radar on this one.

Lincoln Makers Program (MKZ pre-orders)
md3184 replied to md3184's topic in Lincoln Motor Company Discussion
Yeah just be emphatic that you see no reason why you would pay more for hotel accomodations if lincoln booked for you and wouldn't allow you to book direct. -
Lincoln Makers Program (MKZ pre-orders)
md3184 replied to md3184's topic in Lincoln Motor Company Discussion
A work-around for getting the entire cash value amount on a card (I think the value is 700, not 750) is to request hotal accomodations and ask about the published rate. You can reply that you have a corp rate / pref rate at the hotel brand, and ask they book using this rate. They're not able to...so you can just explain you would like to book the accomodations directly and request they send the entire amount on the prepaid card. This worked for me!
