  1. Nope, that’s not what he said. He said there would be no more on Friday but there could be more at any time.
  2. Ford is the largest single employer of UAW workers. That’s the distinction.
  3. He threatened both Arlington and Flint on Friday so flip a coin
  4. They just called the Ram plant in Sterling Heights out on strike.
  5. He thinks he can organize Tesla and the imports. He can try if he wants, there’s no harm in trying other than his reputation on the line.
  6. I wouldn’t bet on that. Most of the people younger than me have zero clue about any of that. Hell, there’s some that think there’s a legal limit on how many hours we can work and think Ford is breaking federal law by scheduling OT.
  7. Who, Fain? I would agree but I fear he’s going to be re-elected in however many years when he’s up for it.
  8. It would have been done a month ago if it wasn’t for the politician.
  9. If I’m Ford, the lockouts would have started the second Fain’s livestream ended
  10. I know, but I’m not sure how many people understand how it breaks down.
  11. It wasn’t necessarily the active labor (though it was definitely on the high side) but more legacy costs. They gave out a TON of pension buyouts from 2005-2010 in an effort to reduce legacy costs, something the vocal majority of the current active employees conveniently forget. It’s the whole reason VEBA was created for post-retirement healthcare. Those legacy costs are something the import manufacturers have never really had to worry about here.
  12. Aside from the retirement stuff, they pretty much matched what Ford has on the table. Here’s a good comparison, no subscription necessary: https://www.autonews.com/uaw-talks-2023
  13. Sounds like GM might be close. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/2023/10/20/uaw-president-shawn-fain-bargaining-update-strike-day-36/71253055007/
  14. GM is saying they’re at the limit now too https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/general-motors/2023/10/19/uaw-strike-gm-says-it-cant-meet-demands-without-devastating-effect/71240679007/
  15. Is the silent majority starting to speak out? https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/uaw-members-grow-weary-five-weeks-into-strike-supply-starts-to-thin
  16. No it’s not, it’s about economic and social justice, have you not been listening ?
  17. I personally never was. I was never anti union because there are some benefits for sure. It’s nice to have some kind of representation when the company is trying to skirt rules or add to jobs with little warning and/or training. That being said this whole process has very much turned me off to the union almost entirely. If Michigan hadn’t overturned the right to work laws I would more than likely be asking for my papers.
  18. Shawn Fain is incapable of setting his inflated ego aside
  19. She knows what’s at stake and we have the same vision for the future. Sacrifice now, buy a homestead in the next 2(ish) years and start a business. It’s going to be tough but the goal is to set the kids up for the future and that’s well worth the challenge.
  20. https://www.wxyz.com/news/ford-motor-co-announces-shareholder-dividend-for-the-fourth-quarter Talk about tone deaf. I get they have to pay a dividend but why announce that less than a week after telling the union they’re tapped out on what they can pay for the next contract? There’s got to be some legal reason for it.
  21. No bots. All are both current and former Ford employees, but not necessarily MAP employees You’re not wrong but after that big display Biden put on the at the picket line there’s no good way for him out of this politically speaking. He’s damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t. It could go down as one of the biggest political missteps ever.
  22. There’s a sizable contingent that does not care. They want what was given up in 2008, period. I don’t feel like going through the effort of blurring names and it’s not worth the hassle anyway but I wish I could post a screenshot of a Facebook comment thread I just glanced through. I’ll sum it up best I can. OP is basically where I’m at in thinking the current offer is good enough to vote yes to, and there’s about 40 comments ripping the guy to shreds, the vast majority saying 30% raises or it’s an automatic “no” vote. The pension for all crowd makes a strong appearance. There’s several that want 40% right off the top. I really hope the silent majority is closer to where I’m at in all of this or we’re probably screwed and I should be open to a career change.
  23. That was more due to the incompetence of UAW leadership at the time and IIRC the margin got closer with each successive vote with Skilled Trades eventually voting in favor of UAW representation.
