  1. yep, just tell me the truth and then any decision is mine and can not be blamed on anyone else, Ford
  2. I do not have an answer but this is the right question. Most folk only worry about the what but until you find out the why nothing really gets better. The why is the only place the solution resides.
  3. Dr. W. Edwards Deming walked thru a plant and noticed a sign that said 'danger leaks' and asked why not just fix the leaks?
  4. https://fordauthority.com/2022/11/u-s-ev-battery-supply-chain-will-be-self-sufficient-by-2030-report/ not much on specifics but some new projections In order to achieve this goal of reaching a self-sufficient European and U.S. EV battery supply chain that would end the current dependence on China, the forecast notes that both would need to invest more than $160 billion – with $78.2 billion going toward batteries, $60.4 billion on various components, $13.5 billion on the mining of lithium, nickel, and cobalt, and $12.1 billion on the refining of those materials.
  5. OK, thanks. But Cali is not stopping ICE/Hybrid till 2035 unless I'm mistaken when ICE will be eliminated from new car purchases but not used.
  6. wow lots of info and mind changing concepts I had not considered that makes reasonable advice for the future of electric future...
  7. on your last paragraph I'm a little stupid. I do not understand your compo of a cybertruck to a small hybrid, what are you suggesting other than someone would choose a BEV pickup vs a Prius for MPGs?
  8. some battery info: https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/ev-battery-makers-race-develop-cheaper-cell-materials-skirting-china-2022-11-15/ "Over time, more (battery) chemistries will come out," said Linda Zhang, chief engineer on Ford's (F.N) F150 Lightning electric pickup truck. "It would be silly not to take advantage of those chemistries." Aside from a cost advantage, Chen says Amandarry's batteries can charge really fast — 80% in 15 minutes. Faradion's Quinn said the company's batteries are also already competitive with LFP cells and it has formed a joint venture for energy storage with agribusiness giant ICM Australia. Quinn said at relatively low scale Faradion's batteries should be a third less expensive than iron-based LFP batteries. He said Faradion has had discussions with "most every major automotive company." "Within the next three to five years, you'll see (our batteries) on the road."
  9. with the results we've had with our C-Max, which cost us over $30k new in 2012 and our over 50 MPG since new, which was the ~same price as the Escape we were considering, if it was a plugin we would certainly consider it.
  10. thanks for the testimonial on the Maverick. Surprised with the over 40 with the aerodynamics of the truck. We love ours and only wish is that we had gotten the plugin.
  11. the last time I bought a car was Thanksgiving 2012 C-Max I had to wait several days as they just came out and waited for the dealer to get what I wanted. Before that I ?bought off the lot. I do not know how I feel about having to order and wait for it to be built. I guess I'm just an old guy who will have to change. ?
  12. does the spending you talk about include the covid checks sent out in 2020 and early 2021?
  13. did not know where to put this so here it is: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-11-02/australian-solar-records-tumble-as-coal-eclipsed/101606490 Soaring power production from households and businesses with rooftop solar panels has sent records tumbling across Australia, with output from fossil fuels falling to all-time lows. In events described as unprecedented, demand for electricity from the grid plummeted to record lows in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia during the past two months.
  14. I remember reading a short story in 11th grade english about a soldier in North Korea who changed the gearing on a Jeep that would be under fire and made it faster than the enemy though and therefore the kooks did not hit it because it was faster than their manuals said it could go and he said he could use a washing machine motor to power a freight train if he had enough gears.
  15. just to be specific on the MPG, I do drive like it is a hybrid and I choose to get the best MPG's. I typically drive not on Interstates but choose the shorter distances and slower speeds. When I see a light turning red up the road I take my foot off the accelerator and coast and at the light I put in park and off the brake as when engaged it does pull power. We mostly drive during the day and do not use the AC unless needed. As a retired couple we are seldom in a hurry and we both watch the meeter to see how we do. We are very pleased and when the noise about the MPG's came we did cash the 2 checks /f sent us. ?
  16. my 2013 C-Max hybrid SEL with 106K averaging over 50MPG is great and I expect it to take me to my 1st BEV F which I hope is another small CUV.
  17. OK, just meant that all the talk about the EcoBoost V6 was that TRUCKERS would only drive a V8 so the EcoBoost was a NOGO from the start and after 2 years the V6 was king. Now the limited mileage will be an impediment for sure but as all the other advantages of BEV are more understood by the buying public I think that will be LESS of an issue.
  18. All good points but I'm not certain that Big Oil did what they did to save our azes, maybe it was to stay in business and profits, which f course is the purpose of any business.
  19. I notice you had/have a 2010 Fusion Hybrid. O have a 2013 C-Max SEL hybrid and getting over 50 MPG today with 106K+ miles, I do drive to get best MPG. How did/do you like the Fusion?
  20. this argument about buyers will not buy the Lightning is the same argument against EcoBoost, when the F150 owners find out about the long-term cost savings in maintenance they will certainly be happy to get one IMHO.
  21. Just glad Ford e is getting it in gear or should I say CVT? ?
  22. Thanks for your reply, just another example that Ford has a real commitment to EV's and a cleaner future that is good for everyone even the deniers.
