Trade between nations is a blessing. In moderated amounts. The world is not flat, it is round. Our trading partners are not investing in us. That is the problem. We are a consuming nation and that is what we are good for. Without savings or anything else to generate cash flow for a country that is burning through billions of dollars a day. The dollar is so weak compared to the Euro now that China and Japan are now using that to float their currencies almost as much as ours. We are becoming so weak in the market place, we can't even offer people to come to the U.S. to travel. Europeans get killed in the currency exchange right now. While globalization is lifting the economies of other countries around the world, the U.S. falling in love with the cheap products that come from those countries. Your hatred for the Big 3 is almost makes me you have mental problems. I work for a small company, Halliburtun. My company competes mostly for U.S government contracts related to Homeland Security and FEMA. My co-workers and I are all reltaively the same age (26-29) and we all pull over six-figures. You know how much this company rips you off personally and rips the American people off in the form of $100 billion contracts. I do a good job and I love my job and I try to make a difference. But its amazing that nobody in America complains about the way our contracts are abused, but you have enough time to talk about how the line worker at some assembly plant makes $30. You are pathetic. This forum is pathetic, and quite frankly, the American people are pathetic.

There will be no negotiation.

To Negotiate you must have something to bargain with, the U.A.W has virtually nothing to bargain with.

The company's will most likely get everything they ask for, and the workers will be lucky if they don't lose money (hourly wage).

I hate to be cynical, but really what bargaining power do we have? We already make much more than our counterparts at smaller company's, and VASTLY more than our Mexicans and Chinese piers.

Our current government doesn't seem to care that every manufacturer in the U.S. is making a B-line to China. Given the fact that our illustrious leader has never put in a hard days work in his life, I'm really not surprised. As long as Exxon-Mobil keeps on making 40 BILLION a year, Bush is perfectly content. The proof is in the statistics, Big oil has NEVER been more profitable than they have been under the Bush administration.

All I can do now is laugh at all the U.A.W. idiots that re-elected Bush, "But Kerry's gonna' take our guns"... guess what Moron... you'll need that gun to rob somebody when you don't have a Job...... Thanks "BIG BUSINESS BUSH".

Sorry I'm getting a little off topic....back to the subject at hand.... yeah we're screwed.

We are all pathetic huh! Then quit taking our tax money ingrate! You claim as an employee that your company is corrupt and rips us off and yet you are proud to work there.

Do not feel you are so high and mighty as I was doing what you do when you were in diapers.

If the Dollar is were weak then why would Europeans not be able to afford to come? It is the other way around my friend. Take a look at the daily shopping flights from London to New York, Yes I said DAILY! My last time in Vegas I thought the casino had moved to London based on the British presence and they could not help but let me know how cheap everything is.

I would have guessed the age group you mentioned based on your post's intellect.

Why don't they get rid of the Legal Services. How many actually use this anyway? Because there are high up UAW who are involved in this benefit. I know I used to work there.

Cash Balance is what Apple,IBM,Microsoft and almost all of Silicon Valley has.

The co. puts X amount in your personal retirement fund and when you leave the company either retire or quit or laidoff you get this $$. It's your account and your $$ so if the co. goes under you still get this $$, that's the best part. I believe Visteon started this for their new hirers years ago!!?

So lets say Ford would put $8,000 per year in that's alright with me!

Also if the fund looses $$ Ford would not have to subsidize it like they do now this is why companies like this plan alot.

My friend, I would guess you are much closer than even you think. But I do believe you left out SUB pay. Since they have already started the ball rolling years back with 2 tier sub pay by seniority, look for that to expand even more with multiple lengths of 3 to 5yr seniority qualifiers.

As far as GEN, Gettlefinger can posture all he wants, but I believe it will cease to exist. Ford and GM want to shrink the amount of top wage people, not give them a reason to stay around. It makes no sense whatsoever from a business standpoint to keep GEN one day longer than the contract now in force insists upon.

Also, transfer money will go the way of the dinasaur for any future plant closings...............at least any money close to what they pay now. Again, they want top wage people to go away!!!!!! Why pay them to transfer and stay working!

Finally, (and lotsa people aren't going to like this) I believe this current contract will be the last contract that you can accrue more money in retirement by staying. Again, everyone in this category are top wage earners and they want them gone. A caveat to this is-------->if they are still there during negotiations for contract, they obviously DID NOT take the buyout. If it was my business, I would consider this a win-win. (do not hit me over the head for stating the obvious) I as the owner, didn't have to pay them to leave, and by taking this one thing out of the contract, they either retire to get it now, or they stay and I won't ever have to pay it to them. In other words, in both cases I have saved money, and in both cases they have lost money.

As far as SUB pay goes when I here someone say GEN or SUB I equate them as onein the same.

GEN is staying. GM has said they will run there plants at near 100% to prevent down weeks.

How?? Take Avon for example the line speed was at 60 per hour. We made 213,000 vans in 97-98 and had about 5-6 down weeks and we worked 6 saturdays and alot of 10 hour days. Last year they made about 175,000 vans and had maybe 1 down week. Ford cut the speed to 45 an hour and they run 10 hours a day almost every week plus alot of Saturdays.

If projected sales are 200,000 then GM will set line speed at 175,000 and word alot of OT because they save $ working ot instead of keeping extra people. Ford will follow GM again

GEN/SUB will be used sparingly, it's basicly a carrot the UAW is giving us.

hey can you tell me what kind of car i will buy 12 years and two month from now ?

look into your ball, and tell me!

will DVD's go away ?

And how do YOU try to predict the future of stocks, bonds, clothing trends? Use dice, craps means everything changes.

I am not trying to predict the future in the least, byt everyone with any sense knows that things are going away. Between now and contract, little will change the profit numbers; or lack of profit numbers at Ford Motor.

Maybe you have no business sense, but no business owner(s) is going to IMPROVE your contract or keep it the same when all that will do is keep the massive bleeding of red ink at its current levels. I am not suggesting that it is our fault, but we are the one thing that is not fixed cost this year to them as our contract is up.

I say------------->More than likely, in Chicago and Detroit, tommorrow the temps will be below freezing..........and I am not a weatherperson!!!!!!

Is that taking opinion and trying to predict the future SUPERDEMOCRAT? Or rather is that drawing conclusions from facts already in evidence and extrapolating them to reasonable assumptions.

What kinda car will you drive in 12 years??? If guys like you don't smell the coffee soon, if the car is a new one, 12 years from now the odds are high it will be an import, since domestics will have either gone out of business, or moved a large percentage of production offshore making even their cars imported.

P.S. I also predict that on June 15, both Detroit and Chicago will be above freezing in temperature!!!!! I suppose you would like to debate that too since it came from me, lolololololol!!!!!!!!!!

P.S.S. Super, do you see on another thread on this page that Toyoty is now worried about its labor costs?

Do you think it is because----------->

1. Toyoty isn't making money, or

2. Because they are already making the excuse to their employees they have to take a cut cause we will, and Toyoty wants to keep the advantage?

Many of us predicted this over a year ago!!!!!

Quit thinking like a worker and pretend you are a business owner for 5 lousy minutes; think of how you could do things to save money and many things will become much, much, clearer to you!!!

Just wanted to say that a weak U.S. dollar is actually good for tourism. You get more for your money. What happens when you go to Mexico? Are you richer or poorer?
