RichardJensen
http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?...p;make_id=trust A trained team of drivers led the effort in the 2008 Ford Super Duty F-450 – the first-ever Class 4 pickup – across 49 states, including Alaska and the District of Columbia, and seven Canadian provinces while always towing a massive trailer. This innovative truck can tow up to 24,500 pounds, 8,000 pounds more than the nearest competitor. “Ford tests F-Series trucks to the extremes so customers can take on the toughest jobs every day,” says Ben Poore, Ford truck group marketing manager. “The Bold Endures road test highlights how the new Super Duty Ford F-450 pickup raised this bar so customers can work and play harder.” The team drove cross-country averaging 1,145 miles a day in all types of terrains and conditions, including temperatures ranging between minus 18 ° F and more than 100 ° F. The team recorded many impressive feats, including: Continually towed a 40-foot triple-axle trailer loaded with up to 18,000 pounds for 150,000 miles Towed at least 12,000 pounds at all times Towed an 18,000-pound trailer – a weight no other heavy-duty truck is rated to tow – 100,579 miles (88 days) Drove in elevations from 100 feet below sea level to 9,000 feet above sea level Drove an average of 1,145 miles per day, including at least 1,000 miles in a 24-hour period 84 times and an amazing 1,537 miles in one 24-hour period
Hydro
Impressive, but I wish they did more testing on the F-250 which is their best seller. The 450 is a cool truck to pound your chest and tout your company but they are super expensive and will NOT move close to the numbers of the 250. The 450 is a cool truck to pound your chest and tout your company but they are super expensive and will NOT move close to the numbers of the 250. The F250 drivetrain is basically the same as the F450 drivetrain, so the ability of the F450 to haul 12-18,000 lbs for 150,000 miles bodes well for all the SDs. BlackHorse
That's really great, truly impressive. The only downside is that this is a vehicle that only one in say 6 or 7 million people will actually buy. A very small customer base. I wish that Ford would put as much effort into making so fine a sedan as they do a heavy duty pickup. Still in all, that's a very impressive truck. White99GT
Now that the truck has 150k miles on it and it's out of warranty, what will it cost to work on the engine if the cab has to be pulled off? Considering the cab is secured by about 8 bolts and most harnesses have quick disconnects, shouldn't be too much. If you have access to a lift you can have the cab off of the chassis in an hour. In fact, you could have the cab off of the chassis on the older SDs, Expeditions, F-150s in an hour and they weren't designed for quicker cab pulls like the new SDs. NaviCat
This truck meets the 2010 diesel standards. Richard, you need to do some more homework. The new 6.4L in the 08 SD does NOT meet 2010 emissions, it meets the new 2007 emissions regs. The only mfg that has certified to 2010 from pickups all the way up to class 8 is Cummins w/ their new 6.7L in the Ram.
