zurno
This will help make the 3 bar grill put fear into all americans..... Cause you know we all fear getting pulled over by the police, fear being inside of a taxi cab with Abu, and especially fear getting hit by one of those 3 bar grills with a taxi sign on the roof of the car. donzuchowski
But why? Ford Motor Compant and Gillette are teaming up to provide a new trim level on the 2008 Ford Crown Victoria and the Ford Fusion called The Mach 3 edition... The new cars come with a new Gillette Mach 3 Razer and also each car will be limited to only 5,000 model run each year.... the cars will also include a big pull down mirror on the driver and passenger sides so as one is driving they can shave!!! Watchdevil
The Panthers sort of remind me of the Mustang. Most people either like them as-is or want moderate improvements made. A few dislike them significantly or can't understand the appreciation for the car, but almost all are expressive about them...one way or the other. I could appreciate the car if it was completely reskinned to look like something fresh and new. My problem isn't the platform or functional size. It's about making it an appealing retail unit again which is what it's original mission was decades ago, and when the Panther platform originated back in 1979... This car wont even go away with it's current design long enough to even be fashionably retro again. It has become the Econoline of sedans... Yes there are some people that are perfectly happy with the Crown Vic the way it is... But there are so many people deprived of a Ford vesion of a modern RWD sedan which is stylish and feels good to be seen in. I believe there are many people who have fondness for classic mid and full sized Ford's of the past but can't go to a Ford dealer today and find anything that gives them that same passion.. Not even a bread and butter car like the majority of old standard sized Fords used to be. Maybe the Fusion and new Taurus are good, but they seem disconnected from Ford's of the past. All of Ford's sedans look like they are all designed by different comittees and the band aid approach is to put the chrome bar grille on everything and call it unified design language. Ford's of other generations looked related to each other in proportions, greenhouse and styling details... There used to be a consistancy that flowed from the Thunderbird, to the Galaxie/LTD, to the Fairlane/Torino, Falcon & Mustang. Even in 1985, The Thunderbird looked related to the Taurus and Tempo... Now it's just about taking a hodge podge of vehicles and facelifting the grilles to match.

Mine is that the Mustang had very little relationship to the rest of the sedan/stationwagon line-up with regard to proportions, greenhouse and styling details. The hodge podge will probably continue, because applying "family" styling cues to the larger range of body styles of today's market may prove to be impossible, especially in terms of proportion and greenhouse. This applies to all the manufacturers. As such, the current "Fusion" grille is an excellent family unifier, IMHO.

This applies to all the manufacturers. As such, the current "Fusion" grille is an excellent family unifier, IMHO. Well for the Mustang, the original Mustang had a close tie with the Thunderbird with it's notchback roofline while it persued the fastback motif as an alternative model that lead to larger Ford's adapting the fastback look to to Torinos, Galaxie XL's and yes even a late 60's Thunderbird 2-door for a couple of years. This even influenced corresponding Mercury models such as the Cougar, Montego/Cyclone and Maruader. All the vehicles used model specific faces that defined the nameplate while many of the related DNA was executed in details like greenhouses, window shapes and some proportions. It's no coincidence that the original Cougar resembles a small Thunderbird based on a Mustang but with some unique Cougar styling identifiers. Ford vehicles during the early 1970's still had a styling relatonship that was signature Ford from the large sedans to the Mustang up until 1973 that made them look like they were styling variations of each other using greenhouse shapes and body surfacing that were consistant. Then things started to fragment. Pinto and Maverick was closer related while the Mustang II was on it's own. Mid and full sized cars were consistantly related with each other while the Granada was on it's own. The boxy Fairmont came along and was related to the 1979 Mustang that followed. By then the styling DNA between all models was very fragmented. The Mustang lived so long on the Fox body that it was on it's own. Then the Aero look stepped in with the 83 Thunderbird, Taurus and Tempo and was adapted to the Crown Vic eventually. The 94 Mustang was brought in line with that styling relationship while adding a few heritage cues. All that fell away as the Taurus became ovoid, the Mustang became new edge, the Thunderbird was dropped, and the Cougar became a play on rectagngles as the Lincoln LS tried to be a BMW in Mitsubishi Galant clothing. Styling beame all over the place since 1999 and hasn't recovered since. The Mustang and Thunderbird went retro existing in forms from two different generations. Meanwhile the Focus was Euro, there was no Contour replacement and the Taurus and Cown Vic went on all too long. So now the band aid 3-bar grille on vehicles all looking bsically unrelaed to each other while the Mustang lives it's legacy all on it's own. The problem is that Ford has only been using the 3-bar grill for what? 2 years? The new Taurus got it this year (looks alright, could be better), Edge (looks good) and the Focus will get it next (jury is out on that, prob not a good thing)...The Addition of the Tribar grill was a last minute change for the Fusion thus why its just now starting to catch up with other Ford products. Its like the bullfrog headlights on the 86 Taurus, it wasn't till 88 that all the other cars in the lineup had them...

K-9Vic
In the 2008 CV order guides, is this grille change mentioned? Spy pics, even in PM, can be false. Example, PM showed the Mercury badged D# X-over that some people "Swore" was coming for 2008 in place of the Ford Freestyle. Amazing, is this not a Ford web page, no one here has a 2008 order guide that has been out for over a month? No, the 2008 Order Guide does NOT mention anything about a new grille or a "Special Edition". This is not a 2008 Crown Victoria per the order guide for the Fleet-only CV. Directly from the 2008 Crown Victoria Order Guide ---------------- FUNCTIONAL CHANGES • Crown Victoria is now available for Fleet only • TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) becomes standard EXTERIOR CHANGES • Color Deleted – Driftwood beige Clearcoat metallic MODEL/SERIES/AVAILABILITY • Crown Victoria Standard • LX Edited August 9, 2007 by K-9Vic

The CV has been made since May7 for 2008 with the changes stated above.. No new grill and no LXSport...and one less color and the tirepressure monitoring system... The PI is continued with the egg crate grill unless you order the Street Appearance Package and then you get all the Chrome accents as in the past... Latest rumor is that overtime is in place at STAP after the shutdown in July because of the high order level and the lack of a second shift... yea.. and you pay extra for the ciggy lighter. donzuchowski
I think BMW is the only company that can pull off the corporate grill treatment. When anyone else does it, it looks silly. i think pontiac also has a coporate division grill as well the twin kidney...

jonas1022
Just the corporate face. It'll take a new chassis design to get a better CV or GM outta Ford now. They are too old a car and being built only because there is a demand from the fleet buyers. Hopefully, new cars to come will be better cars to come...
