You do know that Ford could have a 50 mpg car on the road without much effort, but nobody would buy it, don't you?

Take an 09 Focus, replace the engine with the smallest one in their global portfolio, something with about 50 hp. Throw real tall gears in the final drive, about 3:1. Put tall skinny tires on it, say P185 90 R15, inflated to 50 psi. Program the powertrain ECU to limit max speed to about 40 mph. That should give you your 50 mpg. I would drive like an old Crosley, with accereration times measured in minutes. Lets see how Congress would do if that was their only choice for a car.

These senile fuckers down in Florida voted for him, so ultimately they are responsible.

50 mpg clown cars are going to be a thing of the past as soon as they hit the road, because they'd be so small. They'd get crushed on impact in an accident.

Could you imagine a senior citizen driving a car that small? :hysterical:

Only problem is you have a lot of common sense Deanh, and politicians don't have any.

Toyota & Honda struggle in Europe mainly because the diesel engines of Ford & GM are much more reliable and more fuel efficient and they last a lot longer.

Obama said he is going to get tough on global warming make be he should relax the laws a bit as diesel pump out a lot less C02, they would aso up the CAFE, cut down on the use of Arab oil and Ford and GM already have the engine technology that is class leading in Europe so it won't cost much to intoduce, US could also use more home grown algae diesel that would also cut down on the reliance on Arab oil.

AND it's estimated that particulate emissions from diesel and coal are currently keeping global temperatures 1 - 3 degrees cooler than they would be otherwise! Who woulda thunk that diesels could be the cure for global warming?!?!
