mlhm5
Just caught the press conference with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. The Auto industry will not receive a single dollar of taxpayers money. Because the Republicans blocked any hope of any deal in the Senate. In January, things change and they will get bailout money. There will probably be 59 Dem Senators plus more than a few Republicans that do not want to see the auto industry fail.
Versa-Tech
Big3 have 2 weeks to present a plan. They will decide then. We already know that, other than Ford, they don't have a plan. Harry Reid knows this as well. This is simply politics at their best.
timmm55
Already sunk. It was an uphill fight for the current term, the votes aren't there. Better luck with the new crop of Democrats(<<<<more)/(less>>>>)Republicans coming in January.
RichardJensen
Yeah. Make this a partisan thing. It's not a partisan thing. It's an "our butts ain't in the fryer" thing.
TStag
Does GM have until January? Kirk Kerkorian's right hand man is saying on Bloomberg that he thinks they have weeks. Could be posturing, but if you really wanted an "American car" would you buy one before Jan 20th?
Fordowner
Though i liked the idea of using some of the 25 billion from the 700 billion, and will there be any left in Jan? Plus this would seem to leave GM in a holding pattern for a month - wonder what the suppliers are going to do this month? Do they have to make new capital investments for GM? I'd hate to be in that position. *sorry about that, Feel like Dr. Evil asking for ... 1 million dollars, though I still can't get used to saying 700 BILLION Edited November 20, 2008 by Fordowner
goingincirclez
And it's a "what have you done for us lately?" ($$$$) thing. They don't hesitate to bite the hand that doesn't feed. Versa-Tech
So what's next? A bailout proposition for the suppliers?
kpc655
Because the Republicans blocked any hope of any deal in the Senate. In January, things change and they will get bailout money. There will probably be 59 Dem Senators plus more than a few Republicans that do not want to see the auto industry fail. Dem's are doing the blocking. They're fair weather friends to the union..nothing more. Remember that next election. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=206...&refer=home "Democratic congressional leaders blocked immediate action on a bailout for cash-strapped domestic automakers and told the industry to come up with a workable plan to submit to lawmakers in December. RichardJensen
In reality, they need more concessions from GM to make this work.

RichardJensen
and the UAW No. Not really. The UAW will need to reopen the contract, to allow GM to close plants, but that's it. They've given major concessions in starting wages and will be administering retiree health care. They also gave up pay raises during the next 4 years. White99GT
There will probably be 59 Dem Senators plus more than a few Republicans that do not want to see the auto industry fail. Or more accurately, they want keep their constituents in the unions happy. I honestly think many Dems would like nothing more than to see the big, evil, polluting auto industry fail.
