Anyway, the D3 Taurus outsold the sainted CV! Also, Chicago PD is switching from CV to Tahoes and Impalas. 'Panther death watch' is kicking into high gear.

 

Maybe Ford will buy the LX car tooling to replace the old cats. Mopar is ready to go any day now.

The last one (the 3.6 TDV8 designed and made by Ford in Britain) I was hoping you chaps over in the US would get it's successor in the F150, but with Ford GM and Toyota postponing their light duty diesel trucks that appears to be less likely, and with the current climate I can understand why.

You are hopeless. You fail to understand ANY of the reasons WHY the market shares and sales have changed. Until you understand that, throwing around all the numbers you want won't make a difference. You have NO clue how the market works or why any of the results are what they are. I mean, you DO realize that the quickest disintegration to the Big 3's market share occurred during the "glory days" when they were selling cars you praise so highly like the Cortina and Escort, right? Oh wait, no, you don't realize that. You think their market share suddenly went from 90% to 45% once the Taurus hit the market. And let's not even get into PROFITS. Ford was the the most profitable automaker in the WORLD as recently as 1999. They made more money then than they ever did during the times they owned far more market share. You haven't any idea how the business operates, do you? You are clueless.

 

Go drive your rustbucket Cortina and leave the rest of us who like MODERN cars alone.

A lot of the poor ole folk of the 1960's that were all buying driving cars 50 yeas ago might be dead now but at least they brought cars from the big three and not crap Japanese companies like Mazda they would turn in their graves at the boring crap produced today.

Hmmm... my parents owned a big ol "AMERICAN PRIDE" vehicle called the Caprice. I'm sorry, but my Mazda6 runs CIRCLES around that bloated overweight piece of shit and it would run CIRCLES around the 1979 Cortina you love so much in terms of acceleration, handling, and braking, comfort, reliability, safety, and any other metric you could come up with to compare them by. Sorry. Your argument holds no water there.

 

Oh, and do not leave off the OTHER car I own: My Cobra, with its "Jellymould" 1990's styling, would outrun and outhandle basically ANY Ford vehicle ever sold in the UK prior to 1980. Yeah, boring as hell. :rolleyes:

People that were driving 50 years ago didn't have Japanese cars to buy.

 

Toyota and Honda may have had a tiny presence in the 60's................ and it got a small amount larger in the 70's. They started to gain a reputation in the late 80's for making reliable cars, even if they did prematurely rust. It wasn't until the 90's that they became mainstream.

 

The point being, of course the Big 3 had all of the marketshare in the 50's, 60's, and most of it in the 70's................ there was NO other choice.

 

If you add 15 new players into a marketplace that previously really had 3-4.................. those original 3-4 are going to lose marketshare. THERE IS NO CHOICE. It is simply a numbers thing.

 

Anyway, I will not talk to you any longer. You have no ability to read or comprehend what other people are saying, and believe that YOUR take on the subject, is the only one that is true.

Yet another fundamentally clueless response. Again, Ford's MOST PROFITABLE YEAR EVER was loooooooooong after the Cortina was discontinued. I'm sure it makes you sad, but that's the facts.

 

And once again, how can you possibly call a Mazda6 that outperforms the Cortina in EVERY measurable manner "boring dull bland crappy"? If that's the case, the Cortina was "more boring duller blander and crappier", no? I say again it comes down to you getting old. What was once "cool" just doesn't cut it anymore. Things have changed. You haven't. You don't understand the market today. You don't understand what is popular today. You don't understand why it is popular today. You don't seem to understand much of anything today for that matter.

 

And for God's sake, at least make some sort of attempt to use grammar.
