Trimdingman
Maybe when his wife takes him for half of everything 5 years before he gets his 30 in he can survive on half of his retirement, he needs to come into the real world that the rest of us live in. It is coming. With 10 years seniority, he will be out of work soon. He should have planned better. I would never have taken a job in the auto industry 10 years ago. gbg49229
What he really meant to say was...thank you for your service and your sacrifices, and help guide us through these tough times. Without you we would all be making minimum wage at some dump, where they could fire you for any reason at all. I read that between the lines. BTW I agree with lquidspine and el norte ! not to disgrace the people over 30, but I think that the union and company are the ones who made sure that people didnt make minimum wage and work in a dump, pretty sure that the people over 30 are not sighning payroll. It is obvious that the guy who started this thread is a shit starter but on the other hand I do think there are some people who will be able to retire asap and make it just fine! I know there are some people that had divorce ect but it seems like many people that hace 35 years or more and worked 12 hours a day 7 days a week had 1 of 3 things wrong! 1.drugs, chew them vicodin up like m&ms, thats cool..lmao. 2. gambling, I know gamblers NEVER lose, but the casino never lost money so the regular "winners" are full of shit! 3. There low life kids are draining everything they have and have moved back home with the 4 grand kids and they dont want to work so Mom and Dad have to keep going, giving up a wonderfull pension that the UAW and Ford has givin! Anyhow, good luck folks no matter how long you work
udontkno
I have a little over 20 years and I am in my early 40's, I plan on working until I die so I might as well stay at Ford. I dont begrudge anyone for working and I hope to work 75 years at Ford if the Lord is willing. Only then will I know I'll have medical insurance and income. Enough of the 10 yr seniority and you're out the door shit, this is probably why he/she started this thread because they are worried although it is a stupid thread but to keep using the 10yr crap is bullshit. He/she just wants to maintain a job as there is so much panic happening all over. And udontkno, are you trying to break the record of how many years at one company?? 75 yrs!!!! Come on, if anyone hopes to plan on working 75 yrs has a screw loose. Edited March 19, 2009 by simplesituations

You think THE COMPANY MADE SURE THAT WE AREN"T AT MINIMUM WAGE?????? The Company doesn't EVER give us a THING. The Union has had to fight for it, period ! I will give you that the Union has not been as aggressive in fighting when we had the chances (10 years or so ago) , but the Company would rather all of us woirk for $7.00/hr with no safety or health regulations or benefits whatsoever.....and if you think I am wrong on that, I want some of whatever you are taking. And as far as the over 30 brothers and sisters, they do not sign the payroll, but they damn sure fought to get it ....Thanks for that bros/sis'. Unless someone had something better on the table they would have been dumb to pass at the chance to work for Ford in 1999. Mr. 666 criticizes people with over 30 years for not planning their lives better. There are a lot worse places to be right now than OAC with 30+ years seniority. He should look in the mirror. An auto worker with 10 years seniority, not knowing which way to go, take possibly years of layoffs, or quit, made worse choices. Getting into the auto industry 10 years ago was not the smartest choice. The guy is looking stupid right now by criticizing the smart ones and he still can't even see it. hajime666
Hi hard driver. although i didn't mean to be that direct and agressive(it was late i was tired), i was curious as to what would make anyone stay longer than needed. most of you were just angry at me and calling names. citing how the union got us here and we should be grateful(among other things that had nothing to do with what i asked). some said marriage/divorce/kids and layoffs. no one really answered my question. there are people that still retire comfortably at 30 years that had rocky careers. someone said they were on 7 12's or 10's... really?! did you spend like you were gonna make that money forever and now you're stuck with the bill? someone said they wanted to work til 75 or more. good god, why?! if i had kids or grandkids i'd want to spend time with them or out having fun. basically, i'm planning to live my life for me and not through the company. i realized this great opportunity to work for ford and how they could help me get ahead. i'm taking every advantage possible to have a life and see the sights. i do not want to get up every day and dread going to work. i sure as hell never want to look froward to going to work, either. wixom22
Lucky you were able to get your ten in. Someone is telling me that Ford is getting all backed up, trying to keep 3 shifts rotating ILO's. There are ongoing, but very quiet talks about the kids with under 10 just getting the old heave ho' before they get vested. Legacy costs are going to be a major obstacle for the Big 3 til they find a way to avoid them altogether. Haj, have you ever fathered a child? If so, are you absolutely sure that you know what that kid will need in the next 20-30 years? I have 2 teenage boys. Trust me, just because they turn 18, doesn't mean the cost of raising them and preparing them the best you can, gets any cheaper. MEUAW said it: "SHIT HAPPENS LIKE DIVORCE, PAYING FOR YOU CHILDREN TO GO TO COLLEGE SO THEY DONT HAVE TO WORK IN A SHIT HOLE FACTORY WITH UNTHANKFUL ASSHOLES LIKE YOUR SELF. OR MAYBE WE HAVE BEEN OUT OF WORK LIKE A STRIKE SO ASSHOLES LIKE YOU COULD MAKE A LIVING WAGE. OR A NUMBER OF OTHER THINGS THAT WOULD BE NONE OF YOUR BUISNESS." I've said it before in this forum. What kind of parent has experienced the shit we've all gone through, and doesn't DESPERATELY want their kids to have a better life than this? I don't care how much planning you do or how many coupons you clip. Nobody is doing all this in 20 years and then living THE LIFE. First Come, First Serve!!! That's what I say with my 14 years. Nobody owes you anything. So just wait your turn, stupid.    There are not many people working for ford motor company that are not vested. You vest at five years, has been that way for many years. I'm sure you where just slapping the youngen around anyway.
meuaw
is it poor planning? didn't pull out? don't think someone else can do your job? is work the only place people talk to you? my guess is lonely and afraid... 30 years and you couldn't get your shit straight?! HaHa. I'll be done in twenty(on 40 hours) or less. i have 10 years now. c'mon, losers(non-planners), tell me why you're gonna be working and i'm gonna lay out on the beach before i'm too old to enjoy it PLEASE RE-READ YOUR POST, AND YOUR CURRENT POST IT'S ALL NEGITIVE. hajime666
"AND YOU IT DID STIMULATE NAME CALLING FOR YOU WHAT DID YOU EXPECT YOU ASSHOLE." WHAT?! i can't even read that sentence. anyway i ask the question i'm just gonna get angry people calling names. i meant losers/non-planners. two different groups. just curious which group you're in(I can take a guess after your angry illegible post). we all know people who couldn't wait to retire at 30. they had kids that they took good care of. what makes you any different? what mistakes can the younger generation of workers avoid? marriage and kids isn't really an arguement. divorce, maybe. i understand that the name-calling makes you feel better but it actually doesn't ring of any valid counterpoint. you really had nothing to say that hadn't been said by angrier people already. i am an asshole because the angry posts made me smile. to me it showed how bitter people are. but then there were some very good, coherent posts that i enjoyed reading and could probably have a rational conversation with those people. Why doesn't Bill Gates retire? He has enough money. How about Warren Buffet and Bill Ford? Being "retired" is something that a lot of people are not willing to accept. In this economic climate, savings can be inflated away in a hurry, and pensions, also. If you retire with a life expectency of 20 years, you could spend the last 15 of them in poverty, even if you are a millionaire on paper to-day. Why take the risk when you have a secure job? Hard Driver
hajime666: You cannot tell someone when they should or shouldn't retire. It is personal and honestly no one else business! You do not know everyone's situation and past life experiences. No one is required to retire after 30 years. Should I say you are a screw up because you didn't retire in 5 years? No, because I don't know your situation! It is easy to complain about people not leaving after 30 years....I did it myself a long time ago but I've learned a lot over the years. You can't criticize because you just don't know!!!! Edited March 20, 2009 by Hard Driver
AnotherAutoWorker
So why hasnt anyone brought up the great stock market crash of 08-09? Guess what 666, I planned my ass off! I put away money like it was lost treasure and planned for the day I can retire the minute I hit that 30 year mark ... Every single profit sharing check and a nice fat chunk of my paycheck each week went into TESPHE (a word you dont hear too much now-a-days). I did this so I can retire and get the fuck out at an early age as possible.... You may not have been around when Ford actually contributed to your retirement by matching your contributions or in the days that EVERYONE was encouraging invest into TESHPE plan. Have you taken the classes Ford once offered? I have and I still lost my ass! But guess what happened, my friend: The stock market crashed, and it crashed HARD just a few weeks ago and it still is. Just a few months ago it was kissing 12,000 and now it hovers at 7,000 points. Do some simple math, my friend and you will see that I have lost nearly HALF of what took me YEARS to invest. Add to that I have lost HALF the value of my home over the past few years -- IM FUCKED PAL! Look, I dont have kids living at home, I dont have an ex spouse taking half of anything that belongs to me, I dont have one of those fucking McMansions that I cant afford, I dont even have a brand new car in the driveway, I dont have a drug or gambling problem, or any of the other ridiculous examples you threw out there. I just got fucked just like everyone else that bought a house a few years ago or invested in the stock market as a means to encrue dividends to retire. You want to blame someone... go write a letter to George W.! Hell, I'll write one with ya! So my dreams of retiring early have been shoved back from 30+1 minute to who the fuck knows. Who's fault is that? You mention in your original post that you have set yourself up for 30 and out. YOU HAVE?!?! You already know that nothing in your life or in this now global economy will effect what you have set up to retire TWO DECADES FROM NOW?? Well then you are one bad motherfucker, arent you? You must have some kind of crystal ball or something!?!? Damn THAT must be sweet! So why weren't you on here a few weeks ago to share your retirement expertise and tell us all how to invest our cash so we can all retire and get out of your fucking way, brother???? Tell us all just HOW you do it! Since you have so much more experience in life than us losers and non-planners.... You want to call me names or accuse me of throwing dice or hitting the pipe ----> feel free ... Your post doesnt bother me in the least. No one on here really cares what a new hire with 10 years has to say.... You clearly dont know what the fuck you are talking about. And it looks like you are too stoooopid to even try to learn from anything that all these people are trying to teach you. THAT, my little friend is just SAD. Its sad that you are the future of our union and our company. You enjoy giving us all examples about hugging daughters and $5 birthday cards but then you dont want to hear anyone else share with you about how that little 4 year old angel grows up and by the time you get in your 25 years, maybe that grown daughter needs help from her family. This, my friend, makes you a fucking hypocrite! Im not going to lecture you about the old school Union brothers, you clearly couldn't give a fuck. Im not going to enlighten you on unexpected family crises, or unplanned divorces or personal choices or any of that bullshit... what would you care? Right? I will simply take the pleasure in knowing that I have seniority on you. I will always have seniority on you and I will be that guy that has that kick ass job where I sit on my ass all day everyday and watch you work your 10-year dick off on the line and smile a larger grin for every bead of sweat that falls off your balls .... And YOU still have another 20 YEARS to go. I will be smiling my ass off for MANY MANY years to come... Stash your money in your mattress, brother cuz you say that you have it made -- let me give you some advise: YOU DONT HAVE JACK SHIT UNTIL YOU GET THERE! Trimdingman
If I retired, I would have to downsize from 4500 square feet to 2000 square feet. Where would I put all of my stuff? I worked on the line to-day. It felt good to get a little exercise for a change. It was easy compared to 15 years age when I used to work on the line. I really pity people like 666 who will never enjoy the good life like we 30 pluses, and always worrying about the next layoff. If that were me, I would probably just pack it in and try something else rather wasting my life waiting for the good old days to come back. Manufacturing is el gonzo. Wake up 666 and spell the rust.
