fordworker
Chihuahua has a max capacity of 425,000 large I4 1.8-2.5 they just added a line to make the 1.6 for the fiesta , that line could also make large I4s as well. DEP has a max capacity of 275,000 large I4 per year. CEP is not needed as of now. your uninformed... our concession contract states all as in all of the new I4 engines are to be made in the USA.. and the transmissions also.. so I am right it is going to cleveland or maybe limabut cleveland has a plant open.. and the I4 is replacing the 3.0 v6 cleve, engine that is where this I4 is going..... they can run 500K easily there... jpd80
Doesn't Dagenham build the I5 Volvo 3.2L engine? This engine would be a natural fit in the EcoBoost line...any ideas if Ford is contemplating that move? That motor would be interesting in a rear drive Falcon chassis..... You're confusing a couple of engines. The I-5 Turbo is 2.5 ;liters and goes in Performance Focus, Mondeos aand volvo of course but the SI6 is for Land Rover and Volvo use, offset drives make it expensive although at only 24.5" long, it's actually shorter than the I-5 and would fit into the Focus. The Aussie I-6 is living marvel with great low end torque and plenty power makes it a great ride. Edited August 30, 2009 by jpd80
twintornados
Interesting engine just the same...would love to see further development of it...
battyr
Does the crankshaft PTO in the middle of the engine really add that much to the cost? The way they packaged it, it looks like it pretty much has the same number of parts. If it adds a gear or 2, what does that cost? Mean while they save money by using 2 CAMs instead of 4. The problem was that the SI6 was only ever intended for higher end vehicles. An engineer who worked at J/LR advised on prevoius posts the above gearing is expensive to manufacture, the gear drive has to be machined on the crank next to the flywheel. Perhaps a couple of timing chains at the flywheel end to replace all those gears? Edited August 30, 2009 by jpd80

Perhaps a couple of timing chains at the flywheel end to replace all those gears? I kind of had a suspicion that it was engineered for expensive vehicles. So Ford could re-engineer it to be cheap? Especially if they wanted a 2.5L I6 EB.
