So how are they defeating it? LOBBYIST...They have settled on something they can live with, completely happy no. Did the AMA get more than their fair share? Probably. Money can't buy love, but it can by a politician.

Who do you think pays for that? You and I, and Medicaid is even worse, so if everyone is required to have medical coverage (45 Million with none but still requiring care) that 45 million are picking up a small piece of the price tag.

So we have more people picking up their own cost of healthcare, we have doctors giving a little in the cost structure, pharmaceuticals giving a little cost structure, Insurance companies (rat bastards), Hospitals giving etc we have compromise legislation. Is everyone completely happy.... hell no, but we have to do something. So what's your plan? Leave things alone....

What I was getting at is that if the gov. could not run a cotton candy stand if they had to. I used Medicare to prove my point. Here is a quote from the Wall St. Journal: "The AMA came out in favor of the House bill today. Not a huge surprise, given the group’s endorsement of the health-care bill introduced in the House earlier this year. Still, the new version of the legislation splits a provision about Medicare payments to doctors — a $250 billion provision dear to the AMA’s heart — into a separate bill. The AMA’s president called for the two bills to be passed together. The AARP backed the two bills as well."

So please tell me how the AMA was trying to defeat it. It also states in another article that the Messiah was booed once when he stated that he did not support caps on malpractice suits. That my friend is one of the biggest reasons for the rise in health care costs. If a person "CHOOSES" to eat at McDonalds they should expect to gain weight if they are not responsible to do something about it. If a person "CHOOSES" to go through a drive thru and buy a cup of coffee that they know is piping hot (otherwise they would complain) and the coffee spills in their lap and they get burnt, well I guess they should have been more careful. I don't always agree with some of the salaries these execs make, but I also know that it is not the gov. job or right to dictate how much a company pays its employees, executive or hourly. Let the "FREE MARKET" (or whats left of it) take care of it. People want to complain about the price of Nike shoes. Why do you think they are so high? Because MORONS still buy them.

My bad...did not explain well enough. The AMA's lobbyist were successful in getting too many provisions into the bill, whereby protecting the doctors turf. So the AMA was successful in preventing more meaningful reform, which defeated the bill IMHO.

Why do people think everyone is "entitled" to anything? Why do hard working people have to pay to take care of anyone else other than their own family? T his country was founded on the belief of LESS government. But here we are, changing this fine democracy into a Solcialistic society. Welcome to the United Socialists States of America. Not for me, no way. I not paying for anyone else but me and mine. I'm tired of having to tow the line for others. Let them fend for themselves. How does the saying go? I work hard for a living cause millions on welfare depend on me! NO to government run healthcare!!!

You should have said you work hard cause millions on Social Security depend on your payments to keep social security going because the system is going broke (the portion labeled Medicare)

With over 2200 veterans dead because of no health care and over 100,000 veterans sleeping on the street, you open your mouth and say some thing like that. Health care needs reformed and you my friend need to wake up and get the real facts. These brave souls gave all they had to fight for this country and this is how we repay them. If you dont think something is wrong with that then you are seriously idiotic. I would ask to have my taxes raised to pay for them to have health care.

You can't even tow the line for yourself twinkie boy. What makes you "entitled" to affordable health care? Is it because Ford is paying for it? What if you worked full time and it wasn't provided for you. What if you worked at Ford and the UAW negotiated your medical, and disability insurance away. You only take the position you have because someone else is towing the line for you. You don't buy your own insurance that's why you don't give a rats a-s!

Not surprised are you? This is how they thank our vets. They tell them that they no longer qualify. These vets should be taken care of no matter what. Something is serioulsy wrong with the system. Not enough money, how about take it from the rebuilding Iraq fund.......

I AM a Vet, Gulf War, thank you very much! And as for no health care? Give me a break. People walk into emergency rooms everyday that can't afford it and get healthcare.

P.S. I really like how you try to play the sympathy card by talking about vets, nice touch.

And I guess this is okay! Do you think that the hospital is eating the cost of the care! NO! They are passing the cost on to you and I (like the uninsured motorist fee on car insurance) or the government, which is you and I still. And, the more people without insurance the more this occurs, a vicious cycle! People who come into an emergency room, who are in need of care, are not rejected because of ability to pay, they are stabilized and released, told to seek care when they can afford it. SEEK CARE WHEN YOU CAN AFFORD IT, a country that has billions to support capitalism i.e. bailouts for banks, investment money for "clean energy", not to mention our war machine "pursuit of oil"...etc and seek care where you can afford it. Tell me who can afford it, when medical cost escalate unchallenged. I SUPPORT CAPITALISM, I don't support an insurance industry unchallenged, insurance companies DO NOT ADMINISTER CARE! YOU WANT FREEDOM OF CHOICE, put the care decisions in the hands of doctor / patient not Insurance Bureaucrats. Freedom of choice allow insurance companies to compete across state lines.

This is by far the most expensive way to provide care, and guess what.... YOU are paying for it.

I took my wife into an Emergency department at a hospital in Maryland a few years ago. Being from Canada, I was blown away by the superiority of the care and surroundings. Within 15 minutes, my wife was admitted, and on her way to get an MRI. The waiting area was cheery, high ceilings with a panoramic view through tall windows. The staff was friendly and showed genuine concern and absolute professionalism. This is in stark contrast to what we get in Canada. We get crowded waiting rooms, sterile surroundings, long waits. We are treated more like pieces of meat than human beings. The receptionist snarls and gives dirty suspicious looks. Usually, after 4 to 8 hours of waiting, lucky if you have a seat, among a crowd of people, some of whom are contageous, you get to see someone who will give you a few minutes and probably not give you a diagnosis or treatment. It is more like a MASH unit during a bloody battle than a civilian hospital. Is that what you want in the US?

This exceeds even your usual level of Bullshit.

My experience in Canadian ERs has been nothing but the best.

Maybe a trip to the mental health ward would be a good idea. So dramatic, and full of crap.

There is a load of bullshit. Our health care is so bad that I refuse to use it. You like it because it is all you know. I know what it is like in the States, and what it was like here before it went Commie. I am paying, through combined family income tax, more than double what "Cadillac" health insurance would cost in the States, and what am I getting? I am getting inferior health care to what a ghetto clinic would give to someone on Medicaid in the US.
