South American Ranger gets facelift.

Recommended Posts

Hmmm, I kinda like some elements of the design, chiefly the head-lamps. But indeed, I didn't recognize our Ranger in there at all :).

What's interesting is this is a complete reskin, but the 6-foot bed is carried over and it doesn't match! :)

I wonder if this update was ever intended for the US market.

It is nice to see the Ranger so substantially updated for the first time since 1993!

While the overall look of the truck is fine by me, the headlamps say to me, "I'm going to be very expensive to replace" (if you ever broke one)

I like my '93 Ranger; simple and dependable. (and imo, doesn't look outdated)

The overall design is clumsy, I wouldn't call it an improvement over the original. The new headlamps are higher off the bumper, so they are probably harder to break. The new fascia does look more rugged.

Not to bring this old argument up again, but I was day-dreaming of what Ford would be like if it took certain steps at the begining of the decade so that the following could have happened.

2004:

-Fiesta sedan and 5 door launched sourced from Mexico or Brazil

-Taurus and Sable and Zehpyr sedans: based on stretched Mazda 6, built in Chicago and Atlanta (I know this is what the Fusion turned out to be but if they made the decision to do this earlier, this could have happened)

-F-150 ( as in real life )

- Windstar ( Freestar freshening, but with replacement on the way)

-Villager ( introduced as Monterey in real life, but replacement is on the way)

2005:

-New Focus and Mercury Small Car, shared with rest of world, built in Michigan

-(no 500 or Freestyle)

-Mustang

-updated Escape and intro of Mariner

2006:

-Galaxy and Marauder sedans: Mustang Based RWD large cars

- Continental: Premium version of Galaxy/Marauder/Mustang platform

- Explorer and Mountaineer and Aviator: 3-row Taurus/Sable/Zephyr based CUVs

- (no Fusion...taken place by Taurus, etc)

-Mercury Monterey (C-MAX)

2007:

-Explorer Sport: 2-row and racier-styled Explorer (rebadged Edge)

-Expedition ( as in real life)

- Sport Trac ( based on CUV Explorer)

- Mark 9 : mustang-based Hard-top convertible

-Navigator ( as in real life)

2008:

-Escape, Mariner, Baby Aviator: small CUVs based on C1 Focus

-Windstar and Villager ( all new and based on Taurus platform.)

Anyways, this was extremely do-able, if only they made the right decisions faster...
