the future of America?

He then went on to clarify.

"The unemployment rate around America has not changed. Prognosticators thought it would go up and it has not."

And later added

Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones and Bloomberg News reported that as many as 75,000 people were expected to have lost their jobs in February. Fortunately it turned out to be much lower than that. Only those Republicans who would root for failure would refuse to acknowledge any progress at all. Senator Reid knows there is much more work to do, which is why he led passage last week of the latest in a series of jobs bills that will create or save more than a million jobs

If they can just keep the American people believing that things are improving until after the November elections.....

Creating jobs does not fix the economy. I can borrow $15,000 on my credit card and hire some people to build me a deck, but that will not improve my personal finances.

The government prints money out of thin air, and sprinkles it around. That takes from the rich, as their money becomes worth less, and gives to the not so rich, as they get make-work jobs. That is the socialist way of doing it. The conservative way would be to cut taxes and cut wasteful spending by the government. Both attempts at solving the crisis would have a similar impact. I am afraid that we are way too far in the hole for either plan to work, just buy time. We are going down just as surely as the Titanic. Just look at the numbers.

Len, are you still looking?

Yes. Still looking. After two and a half years. My wife is still looking after a year and three months. There's starting to be more things to apply for, and I'm applying for everything, even retail jobs. Had one in person interview last month, was the first face-to-face interview in seven or eight months. Didn't make the cut, but at least it was a face-to-face (as opposed to the first three interviews in that process being over the phone).

And the postal service delivered the third rejection letter from the U.S. Attorney's office to my wife. So what else is new?

You could investigate

www.averywebservices.biz

The owner, Shawn Kulchyski, explains the "pay-per-click" world; what to watch out for and avoid, and who pays. Unlike a lot of the pie-in-the-sky wizards, he is available on-chat and by telephone. Some sites he recommends are free, some require a small investment. :)

Len I know how you feel, been a year now no job / no income and no I don't get unemployment or food stamps or whatever. Was living off the money from the house I sold, then sold my trailer, now living off of my IRA.Like you I've also been applying for any position ./ work I think I can do, parts, driver, warehouse whatever.

One interview I went through the manager at the F.A.D. (Ford authorized distributor aka parts warehouse) looked at me and before I even sat down says jeez you got more years experience than I got being alive - age cost me a job?

Got a call about 5 days ago from one of the owners of a wholesale distributor (again auto parts) says he liked my resume / work history and would have his local manager call, asks me if I'd be willing to work part time, said yes but was hoping for full time and made the mistake of being forthcoming and let him know I'd continue looking for a full time so I could get some benefits. His manager never called - honesty cost me a job?

Went through an interview at one of the parts chain stores, seemed to go well manager liked my work history etc. but again no job. Guessing it went to one of his freinds or a freind of a freind. Know for a fact that's what happened after my first interview out here last year, one of my freinds found out what happened and let me know.

Sorry but I'm old school, don't lie, don't cheat, don't steal,

Like Dean said it'll come but will take time, good luck to you.

Man, I'm 50, and I know my age cost me a job offer at least a couple of times. One interview I was being double teamed - two people interviewing me at once. One guy stepped out, and as soon as the door closed, the other one tells me "Len, you're a dinosaur, why should I hire you instead of a guy half your age?" I was flabbergasted. Then he says "That wasn't a test question, either. You'll notice I waited for my partner to leave the room, before I asked you. If you try to sue, you'll have to prove I asked that, and even if you could, it's the cost of doing business."

O-K. ... Next!! You just laugh to keep from crying...or beating the living shit out of some asshole who desperately deserves it.

The other "favorite", and possibly illegal, interview question I've been asked a couple of times is "Do you need health insurance?" Ah, no, moron, I like paying big doctor and monthly prescription bills out of the chicken shit salary you're going to tell me this job pays. Sheesh. When can I start - I like shoveling chicken shit.

Anyway, I'm trying to keep my wife's spirits up. She has two bachelor's degrees, and twenty years experience as a paralegal. Before the big law firm that laid her off, she was with the state's attorney disciplinary body for ten years. Six weeks ago, she got a "heads up" from someone at the state's attorney grievance agency that they had an opening, so she sent the administrator her resume, and when they listed the opening in the help wanted ads, she answered it, and copied the administrator again. She got the first interview. Didn't make the cut for the second interview, and now the job is filled. She's known the assistant administrator for two decades, one other attorney there for fifteen years, and had ten years with a sister agency...and she doesn't even get a second interview.

Two other former paralegals from her old firm interviewed there, too. They also didn't make the cut, not even the second interview. Guess what? All of them are over 45 years old.

Yea, I think age discrimination exists.

Then, today, they come out with Michigan's unemployment rate - just over 14%. And you guys in California are up to 12.5%. What's the ancient Chinese curse? "May you live in interesting times."

LOL! And with that, I'm going to go have a stiff drink. Like you, I'm old school, too. "don't lie, don't cheat, don't steal" But I will drink!

good man Len, remember, good things come to good people, may take time but...

Thanks. My favorite saying, in my preferred vocation of sales, is that I'm too dumb to take "no" for an answer. I'll keep trying to win the game of "last man standing".

I'll look at it. I look at every thing.

I can remember a time, before government got so involved in trying to solve people's personal financial problems, when losing a job was not such a disaster as it is to-day. I found myself in that situation several times, and each time, was able to find suitable employment within a week or so. I have no trade or profession. If government had just minded it's business, jobs would still be plentiful to-day.

I wish you luck. Have you considered starting up a business? People around here are making a killing washing windows, sealing driveways, aerating lawns, etc. I got my windows done for $75. It took two people about 45 minutes. Moving furniture is also good. Put an ad in the paper, and when you get a couple of jobs, rent a truck and hire a helper or two, and you've got a thousand or so profit. Learn how to load the truck properly from the internet. Once you have put enough money away, you can go back to whatever it is you like to do.

Assuming my back doesn't bother me much, I'm hoping to get some work detailing cars this spring, summer & fall.
