johnjyi
Perhaps there's a possibility of a Phoenix rising -- oops! wrong brand -- I meant a Thunderbird rebirth. That would be interesting.
2b2
Is this forum an indication of something to come? don't hold your breath for an answer, saintlaz1 that question has been blatantly ignored in the Bronco section
ds91776
If Ford resurrects the idea of a Ford Halo Car ( ala Ford GT ) I hope they give it futuristic styling, give it a techno-savvy power-train, and name it THUNDERBIRD!

ds91776
There just isn't a market for another $25,000-50,000 dollar coupe/convertible in Ford's lineup. The market just doesn't exist. Lincoln needs a Mark IX hardtop convertible in the future.......so a future Thunderbird should be a halo car that either takes up where the Ford GT left off or competes head to head with the Corvette. Names like "GT-R" or whatever have no SOUL. Thunderbird has it in spades.
NickF1011
....or they can just let the Thunderbird name ride off into the sunset where it probably belongs. Is it iconic? Sure. Does it carry the same panache as the Ford GT did? Nope. It doesn't even have the same image as Mustang anymore. It may be time to let it go...at least for the foreseeable future. 2b2
^ imho few general car-fans are going to be familiar with the GT - I'll conduct an informal survey tomorrow but for sure they know the name Thunderbird There just isn't a market for another $25,000-50,000 dollar coupe/convertible in Ford's lineup. I didn't recommend a coupe or 'vert**:"...here's the closest contemporary car (in style, not price)..." that ^ is a 5-door hatchback and between inflation and Ford's progess in the 2 years since my last Epitome update; I'm now thinking more near $40k for the not-base-at-all trim... (& since we've heard that the next Taurus is supposed to resemble the Jaguar XJ, I'm a bit more hopeful that a Tbird COULD resemble the AstonMartin Rapide) ** isn't your GTbird technically a "coupe"? a $100k+ coupe? Billyecoboost
I just want ford to compete in the masculine sedan segment as much as the taurus sho is awesome i cant seem to want to shell out that much for something that looks like that. ergo thunderbird or something like it. i had high hopes for the interceptor may it rip
mettech
Is it feasable that the next Mustang platform could spawn a new Thunderbird and a Lincoln? I wish Ford would bring back the Thunderbird and make it the flagship for the company instead of the Taurus.

I wish Ford would bring back the Thunderbird and make it the flagship for the company instead of the Taurus. I'm sure it would be physically possible. Now that doesn't necessarily mean that Ford brass would consider it to be a financially justifable proposition. I do think a Lincoln variant of some sort is a strong possibility though. I don't think Mulally will as he is too focused on Lincoln right now, but maybe the next CEO in a few years. Someday the T-Bird name will be on some Ford vehicle. At some point Ford will enter another niche, and T-Bird name is too valuable to let stay moribund forever. Or just make a four door Mustang if and when Mustang coupe sales get too low, and call it a T-Bird. After all, Ford loves four door sedans. Not exactly directly, but the willingness to split their luxury 'focus' WILL do that imho.

Re-establish them on a solid rung above Ford before pushing Ford's envelope any higher.
