RichardJensen
If his statements are no different than what every IUAW leader says before negotiations. Garbage. You can't find Gettelfinger spouting this kind of rhetoric. And as to what the other UAW employees get, it's an effective raise of of c. 5-10%. If they get COLA, that $16k guaranteed bonus figure is going to drop by a commensurate amount. There's no more money being thrown into this deal by Ford. Period. RichardJensen
maybe this is what they want. COLA? You think this is about COLA? Garbage. Any sensible person would look at $16k in bonuses and c. $6k in profit sharing next year and say, "hey, this should do for now. Let's worry about COLA when inflation is more likely to be a problem." RichardJensen
And you know what? If COLA IS this big of an issue, well that's just another instance of Bob King screwing up. If he knew COLA was the a-number-1 issue with rank and file, he should've stopped spouting off about 'no raises more profit sharing' all summer long. Guy is absolutely unqualified to lead a union. Good grief! When he's engaged in tense negotiations with Chrysler and Ford, he's simultaneously dropping anti-capitalist rhetoric for the negligible Occupy Wall Street crowd? Are THESE people his constituents? What obligation does he have to them? Edited October 14, 2011 by RichardJensen

mettech
If this contract gets voted down... Ford should come back with the GM contract..... If that gets voted down... Offer the Chrysler contrat.. If that get voted down... walk away from the UAW... I'm sure there are many States that would give anything for Ford to build a new plant in a "Right to Work State". No Federal Court or arbitrator would side with the UAW if they strike on this contract.
snooter
Wow...this guy is going to do nothing but destroy his own workers...if i was a uaw guy i would be worried about what is to come....get ready for yota and the like to sell more cars and further erode detroit...that doofus is destroying his own membership

Just keep extending the existing contract, start talking about alternatives with the CAW and watch what happens....
BrewfanGRB
maybe this is what they want. If they truly understand the guaranteed bonus is reduced by an equal amount to give COLA, then they are idiots and fail to understand simple math. If that's true, they deserve everything they get. (Which could be a strike and being replaced).
atomcat68
the UAW is not allowed to strike GM or Chrysler. It was part of the bankruptcy. Also, I believe the unions are partial owners like the government. Striking against yourself would look foolish and diminish their investment. Also to stir the pot, couldn't this give Ford a case to take the UAW to court over their actions due to conflict of interest? ( By striking Ford and giving GM more value and therefore the UAW more money.)
bobbyd
BOB KING DELIVERS A SLANDEROUS SPEECH TO HIS UNION TELLING THEM ALAN MULALLY (WHO SAVED FORD) WAS OVERPAID AND THE UNION SHOULD DEMAND AS MUCH AS THEY CAN GET FROM FORD. SO, OF COURSE, THE UNION VOTES THE CONTRACT DOWN, SINCE KING INITIALLY FUELED THE FIRE AND NOW HE'S STUCK WITH "NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO!" IF HE DID ANYTHING, HE HAS HELPED "HURT FORD" AGAINST THE COMPETITION WHO IS LOVING THE FACT THAT FORD MIGHT STRIKE AND LOSE MARKET SHARE. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO TELL KING FORD IS STILL IN DEBT ALMOST $14 BILLION (NOT MILLION). IDIOT!
bobbyd
It appears that the negative responses are from union guys...expected. I wonder if they would be thinking different if Ford went under and they had to settle on a less lucrative offer like GM or Fiat/Chrysler? Did anyone hear about the union guys at GM rejecting their offer? With 30 million Americans out of work..forever...and with Ford still in $14 billion debt...you union guys should kiss the ground you are working under for the "more than generous offer" you were given.
