tanner83
Ok, this topic is only about the MKZ Hybrid 2013. For those that have taken delivery I have a question. I have noticed when sitting at a light running on EV, and all climate, radio, nav off I am hearing some weird whirring noises. Can you guys try this out and see if you hear anything at all. I would hate to have to take this back to the dealership 1 day after getting it!!!

I forgot what it was narrowed down to. Read so many forums can't pinpoint it. Let me try to guess, possible ANC thing. Was it coming from the front dash? That's all I can remember. I will try to scour for it again. Ok found it among my many bookmarks: http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/6180-cracking-noise/ http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/5250-annoying-noise-in-dash/ Edited March 12, 2013 by Serraph

xgman
Funny, I heard that sort of noise from my 2011 Hybrid this morning. I figured it was something to do with the regen system.
Serraph
Thanks Serraph... Welcome just check out where you're hearing it but those are the two main things that people were having issues or just notice when things are in EV mode. I know Prius has a whirring sound when you shut off the car. It pumps hot coolant into a thermos type container, but overall I think all car makes some sort of noise that you're not use to hearing because it's being drown out bye tne ICE. Hope it's nothing major or a problem on the MKZ.
galangg
For those of us without a car to listen, keep us informed with what you find out or hear Tanner. I'd love to know things ahead of them happening, so I can be prepared to actively do something about it, or know that it's ok.

If you have time head on over to the Fusion forums to check out some of the issues they are running into. I doubt some will get the problems they are. I for one am glad about the extra inspections though it pains me to be not have a car in a timely manner. They only have one impression to make. In the long run I'm sure most if not all will appreciate a well built car ( plus the 4year warranty will come in handy right? lol )

tanner83
Ok so update the car has since stopped sounding strange when stopped. So that is good. Interesting though is the sound when you start the car. There is a real loud whirring sound as I sit in the car and put my seat belt on but then stops or at least I can't hear it when I start driving

jjbklb
The owners manual says there is a fan that kicks on in the back to keep the big battery pack cool.
ibinubu12
There is a blower motor in the trunk that pulls air from the passenger compartment over the battery pack and exhausts into the trunk. This fan is on whenever the battery thermal management computer tells it to activate, so it will not be predictable. But it should not be loud enough to disturb the driver significantly. tanner83
Good info, this is definitely coming from the front of the car and is LOUD. Might visit the dealership tomorrow and have them check it out. Car could use a good wash anyway!!

I may try and record it sounds kinda freaky Haven't heard that. Seems less sounds and rattles than the 2011 so far. One thing that bugs me is when I open the door to look at the space in the garage when I park, the car slams into Park, even if I am moving slightly. I really hate that.

Rick1723
the whirring could be the electric motors... I have a 2010 fusion hybrid..when going on a quiet repaved road to work at a lower speed and the electric kicks in, I hear it.. In the owners manual, I believe it talks about it... Rick. xgman
No noise and rattles, but I have noticed that if you don't hold the gas pump dead level the pump shuts off. Also when playing Sirius radio, I get kicked into my usb music files for no reason. Also even though you are not supposed to be able to lock your key fob in the car, if you leave your key in the car and then lock the car with the door panel combination code, IT LOCKS!, so better remember you unlock code!! So just little niggles so far. Edited March 26, 2013 by xgman

Is the FOB disabled when you do that? IE: if someone were to get in the car without the code or another FOB, would the FOB allow the car to be started up? IE: if someone were to get in the car without the code or another FOB, would the FOB allow the car to be started up? I assume that if you broke in, after the alarm went off you could silence it with the key and drive off. I had always thought that these sort of cars were aware that the key was in the car and wouldn't lock. Maybe it thinks if you use the door code to lock that you know the unlock code, but what if you didn't? Seems pretty dangerous to me. kimbar1962
Ok, one whole day driving. Sorry, I can't figure out why I can't post pictures here. I'm getting this really unusual low-pitched hum when I hit 45 mph. It's definitely coming from the Left front (passengers') side. I thought it was tire noise at first, but then it seemed more central. I remember someone saying something about the air flow and the front grill. . . It was windy today (but it is every day in the evening. We're headed to Carmel this weekend, so we'll have plenty of time to experiment. It has to go back in for the permaplating, etc., next week (I hope). But I'd appreciate thoughts. And a reminder on how to post pictures for heaven's sake. If it is then it's the electric motor.
xgman
The little noises from most cars will drive you crazy if you let it. There is a fail safe way to get around this. Turn the radio up loud. Seriously, I do hear a good deal of creaky noise coming from the general area around the dash and the headliner around the moon roof. Press on a few spots on your headliner and you will see that there is plenty of unstuck glue making creaking noise up there. I don't know why car makers down insulate that area better.
