NickF1011
Hmmm I thought I saw one of the Ford guys say MKZ inventory was around 30 days during the June sales call.
RichardJensen
The MKZ numbers may be build-out of 2013s prior to Job-1 2014 Fusion production.
jpd80
MKZ hybrid was at 28 days.... Link to Seeking Alpha We are pleased to report that the second quarter marked an all time best ever quarter for the MKZ. It also was the first time the MKZ surpassed 10,000 sales in a single quarter. Of particular note, with very strong demand for the MKZ Hybrid, we ended the month with a 28 days supply on this vehicle. Fusion is in tight supply at 30 days... Link to Seeking AlphaFusion had an incredible month with 24,313 vehicles sold. This was only 120 vehicles shy of last year's monthly record. This was accomplished within stock levels, including some regions now under a 30 days supply. As we have said on previous calls, the summer months will be tight for Fusion until production at our second Fusion assembly plant in Flat Rock, Michigan comes online this fall. Link to Seeking AlphaFord's small cars including Fiesta, Focus, and C-Max Hybrids totaled 35,851 vehicles, representing a 39% gain over last year. This represents our best June small car sales in 13 years. Our largest market for small cars is now the Los Angeles region. For the first six months of this year, our retail sales for small cars are up 39% in the LA region. Our fastest retail growth area for small cars is the San Francisco area which was up 48% in the first half at retail, followed closely by Seattle where retail sales are up 41%. RichardJensen
Fairly sure the MKZ numbers are from production balancing. They can't be expecting to sell ~7-8k of those per month, and it looks like they need to boost Fusion inventory.
NickF1011
MKZ hybrid was at 28 days.... Based on the wording of the statement, it sounds like he was referring to the entire MKZ line, which was at 28 days because of strong demand for the hybrid. No Nick, I've heard them talk in other conference calls and when they talk about " inventory levels with this vehicle" instead of "with MKZ", that is code for a specific version like MKZ hybrid. They should be more clear then. Removing the prepositional phrase "with very strong demand for the MKZ hybrid" makes it sound like it is describing the previous sentence, which is the MKZ as a whole. NickF1011
When they discuss with detail MKZ hybrid and link selling day for "that vehicle" its pretty clear, I just explained why it is not. Couldn't they have just said "Of particular note, demand for the MKZ Hybrid is very strong, leaving it with a 28 day supply." In that case, you know "it" is referring only to the MKZ Hybrid. I understand what you're saying and agree. After listening to sales calls, i've learned the way that Ken Czubay phrases info, sometimes it sounds back to front and I suspect that he reads from notes that seem to have been dictated...It's conversation transcript so when I hear it in the conference call it makes sense to me..... They can't be expecting to sell ~7-8k of those per month, and it looks like they need to boost Fusion inventory. Is there any possibility at all that the reason the number of days supply is high for MKZ and so low for Fusion is that maybe Ford plowed ahead and built an excess number of MKZs to hold them over so that they could then turn around and build nothing but Fusions for a bit in order to feed the high demand? Precisely, Ford trimmed Hermosillo Fusion production so it could build MKZ at about 4,000 a month to fill out inventory. It was deliberate on Ford's part to do that because it wanted MKZ built out so it could resume full Fusion production until Flat Rock comes on stream..30 days is a little too tight to guarantee that all buyers are getting the exact models and options they want right away, crucial with "walk ins"... Pretty much, yeah. You have to overbuild MKZs now because you have to under build them for the next couple months in order to build up Fusion inventory. It's like, if you're going to build up inventory at the expense of another product, you have to overdo it, because you're going to have to pay back that volume later. If MKZ inventory doesn't decline over the next few months, there are problems. Edited July 12, 2013 by RichardJensen

Extreme4x4
He sprinkled it all on Lincoln, and didn't have any left for Cadillac. As much as the GM faithful do not like to hear it, Cadillac is not doing well....................... especially when you consider the massive piles of money that have been spent on it. This is the risk when you try to be a "copy" company. What is the motivation for someone to buy yours, over the original??
MineralstangGT
OK, so with this short of supply are gas powered '14 Fusions going to start production at Hermosillo 7/14 along with the hybrid/energies? Or will they be delayed till Flat Rock in September? I just don't understand why they would stop gas Fusion production for 6 whole weeks. They didn't stop production, Hermosillo remains flat out producing around 33,000 to 36,000 vehicles a month. Ford took some production volume away form Fusion models to build up MKZ production for a few months but now that's done, MKZ production has been eased back from 4,000/mth to around 2,800/mth combined. The 30 days selling rate comes from available supply to dealers based on previous months sales, so it is likely that Ford will maintain inventory levels heading into fall and winter, especially when Flat Rock starts up. akirby
So gas production of the 2014s should also be coming from Hermosillo correct? All 2014 production comes for Hermosillo initially. Flat rock will only add additional gas fusion volume. Hybrids and mkz will still be exclusive to Hermosillo .

RichardJensen
Wow, no love for the C-Max... Note that the inventory of Focuses is a bit low (37 days). Shouldn't be surprising that there will be fluctuations in inventory between products assembled at the same plant.
