Ford Set to Surpass Hyundai in China This Year

With the new plant, Ford will be able to produce 1.2 million vehicles a year in China, compared with 1.05 million units at Hyundai, according to data from the companies. That’ll place the Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker behind Volkswagen AG, General Motors Co. and Nissan Motor Co. in sales among foreign carmakers in China.

Mark Fields is clearly not including Dongfeng Kia in Hyundai's column. Hyundai's target in China this year is 2 million units - http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/01/24/us-hyundai-china-sales-idUSKBN0KX03O20150124

Chang'an Ford + Jinagling Ford will have more production capacity than BAIC Hyundai. It's a significant achievement for Ford but Hyundai-Kia is still bigger in China.

The bigger news here is Ford appears to be on pace to pass Toyota in 2015...

I wonder how much actual net profit Ford brings home after they pay Chang'an Automobile Group their 50%.

Enough to justify spending $4 billion on increasing production by 50%.

Let's see how deep their pockets really are, will Ford double down and go again...

Good lord. Not since the brass era in the US..............

And that's just the top 70 brands. Missing from that list are smaller foreign brands (e.g. Porsche, Bentley, Rolls Royce etc) and a host of fly-by-night outfits out in the provinces. The list also does not include makers of commercial vehicles.
