First Time in Passenger Seat (yikes)

Recommended Posts

This morning we had to drop my wife's minivan off at the shop for new tires and brakes (man she goes through brakes faster than you can say stop).

Anyway after we dropped off her van, we put the kids in my car and drove home in my 2014 Focus hatch. My wife drove while I sat in the passenger seat (for the first time!)

I could not believe how cramped the passenger side was. My left leg was pushed up against the center console. Odd thing was, the passenger seat was back just as far as the driver's seat, but the console seems to jut out to the right side of the car. I could not believe just how uncomfortable it was.

Is it just me or does any other MK3 owners feel the passenger legroom is really oddly shaped to the point of being uncomfortable?

YES! I've been complaining about that since forever - it's like the whole dash bulges out at the passenger

(&

just as bad or worse than the total lack of rear FOOTROOM)

Yeah, I had my two young children in back and they looked squished in there. My 3 year old got out of his car seat and had to squeeze in between it and the seat in front of him.

Now, I'll be honest...99% of the time it is only me in the car (why I didn't notice until now)...but it really surprised me how bad the space utilization is. It's like they only developed it for the driver.

It's noticeable to me but not uncomfortable. Definite room for improvement.

I have a new Focus rental car now - I'll see if it's been changed.

That seems to be true literally and figuratively. Mk3 Focus has been lauded for its agile handling and responsive steering as consistently as it has been dinged for cramped interior accommodations for passengers.

Well, I have a 5 hour drive to make in two weeks with my 6'2" brother. Sorry bro!

Wonder if they built them that way for England and RHD markets. Imaging adding a steering wheel and stick shift!
