Anthony
Report from autonews.com http://www.autonews.com/article/20170127/OEM06/170129862/ford-aftermarket-device-will-boost-connectivity-in-older-models Depending on the pricing, I may get this for my 14 Focus. 92merc
The remote start in my 2013 Escape sucks compared to the Viper I had installed in my Montego. I might be able to finally get that feature back, depending on cost.
Pioneer
The monthly charge is what will make or break this. I have Drone Mobile on my 2016 Focus. $8.00 a month to start my car from anywhere in the world with cell service.
akirby
I think the normal data plan is $10/month.
Anthony
I think the normal data plan is $10/month. Call me cheap, but I'm not paying more to remote start / lock / unlock my car than pay for Netflix. I guess it would be handy if the car got stolen (track it) and I certainly don't need in-car wifi for myself..... these monthly subs really start adding up. akirby
$10 covers the wi-fi data usage. If all you want is remote lock/unlock, remote start and vehicle status and location that doesn't require a data plan. That's the current Sync Connect - no monthly charge. It's included on higher Lincoln models and optional on some Fords now. I don't know if they'll offer that type of option here but if they do it would just be the one-time cost of the hardware and you won't get wi-fi data. akirby
I'm pretty sure the sync connect communication is via SMS text. The vehicle sends and receives encrypted text messages thus there is no need for a data plan or a monthly fee.
MKX1960
What about 2017 models? As far as I know, the Explorer doesn't offer the Connect feature
akirby
This should work for all 2010 and later models including the 2017s that don't offer sync connect.
brucelinc
All I know is that starting the car by phone and having the seat/steering wheel warm is a very nice feature during a Minnesota winter. No more issues with remote range or obstacles. After experiencing this with the Continental, my wife will want this for her Taurus.
