akirby
https://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/infrastructure/a21205127/ntsb-teslas-autopilot-steered-into-barrier-in-fatal-crash/ During the 60 seconds prior to the crash, the driver’s hands were detected on the steering wheel on three separate occasions, for a total of 34 seconds; for the last 6 seconds prior to the crash, the vehicle did not detect the driver’s hands on the steering wheel. At 8 seconds prior to the crash, the Tesla was following a lead vehicle and was traveling about 65 mph. At 7 seconds prior to the crash, the Tesla began a left steering movement while following a lead vehicle. At 4 seconds prior to the crash, the Tesla was no longer following a lead vehicle. At 3 seconds prior to the crash and up to the time of impact with the crash attenuator, the Tesla’s speed increased from 62 to 70.8 mph, with no precrash braking or evasive steering movement detected. 92merc
Law suit! Well there goes Elon's bonus. Elon: "I won't be taking any pay until Tesla is profitable". Tesla stock holders rejoice, "he's saving the company money!" Tesla stocks increase in value... SMH You know that's where it'll be heading... murphy62
The driver is supposed to be paying attention and resist any steering motion that is not correct. Resistance to what the car tries to do immediately cancels autopilot. The car is not autonomous in spite of all of the idiots posting videos that appear to show that it is. The earlier version, known as AP1, uses the same MobilEye camera that is in my 2013 Ford Fusion Energi. Ford calls it lane keeping and it is all over the road if you don't steer it yourself. I have no idea what is in AP2 and later cars.
LSchicago
These cars need a new Lucifer mode. That way those who want to commit suicide can let the car do all the work. Tesla's seem good at killing people on their own.
