Ford recalling Transit models to fix driveshaft coupling

Quote

Ford issued a recall in 2017 for the same issue and made interim repairs by replacing the flexible coupling while it worked on a final remedy. That permanent fix is apparently still not ready, so Ford says it will replace the flexible coupling on affected Transit vans with more than 40,000 miles and keep replacing it every 40,000 miles. The final repair will involve having dealers install driveshaft front sections with mechanical U-joints to replace the flexible couplings.

We can all thank Ford of Europe for the original design using a guibo coupling !

Glad I bought a new E-350 cutaway to replace my old van (much more reliable than Transit). How many years have they been building RWD vehicles for???

The thing I don't get is why doesn't the EU version of the Transit have this issue?

I don't understand. Maybe the article is mistaken? If the the flex coupler has failed to the point we have to replace other components, we install a u-joint. We installed u-joints on unsold stock last year. How is the permanent fix not ready?

They sell both....in Europe it is available as RWD and the Transit Custom is FWD.
