If the US gets a hybrid, you can bet it's gonna throw the competition for a loop. If Ford wants to keep selling Ranger in Europe, it's gonna need a hybrid or PHEV, the tide is against diesel there and shifting fast. Yes, the road map to 2025 has been pretty clear for the last 10 years - electrification was the only logical and feasible path. Some car companies made a suicide pact with Trump Admin to try to change that but some did not... That pursuit was always illogical anyway because it wouldn't have changed the outcome in other markets like China or Europe. These global car companies wouldn't have saved a single dime on R&D if CAFE was gutted because they still had to meet the technology requirements in other markets. If you look at the lead time required on vehicle development, most car companies probably stopped ICE-only development in 2019 or 2020. Very few new vehicles will be launched from now on without either PHEV or EV option. Bronco made it just under the wire I think. It may in fact be the last vehicle Ford launches without PHEV, hybrid, or at the very least a 48V mild hybrid option. jpd80
In spite of politics, the march of hybrids is there and lots of buyers are now seeing the benefits in increased fuel economy, particularly in city cycle slow speed running where ICEs tend to use a lot more fuel. I always found it interesting that CAFE ignores fuel used in urban stop/go running.
