  1. That C-pillar is a rip off of a 88 Continental!
  2. My parents had a 89 Wagon (as seen the bottom pix) and its transmission went at 56K and 102K respectively. My parents haven't had the best of luck with Ford Automatics...the Taurus and their Explorer's Transmissions went well before 100K...I hope the JV Tranny in their Sable doesn't give them problems.
  3. Cool...now cue the bitching and whining on why we don't get this car in the States :P
  4. Heres mine: 1986 Escort GT, used to be my old mans car, was my first car. First shot is it on the production line at EAP (was following it at night by VIN), Next one is out in the holding lot and the last one is in front of the house I grew up in. The car was still on the road in 1998, when I ran into it at an Autoparts store I was working at. Had well over 200K on it and had two major accidents on the front right sub frame (Dad got cut off and spun out (Escorts had really bad emergancy handling back then and I was a moron when I had mine..) and was still running good!
  5. Well that makes me wonder, esp if it doesn't come out at the Chicago show....the NY Auto is the last major show in the country and is pretty lame when it comes to new products.
  6. History doesn't mean shit in sales numbers... there are pently of examples of cars who sold in much larger numbers then they do today..and are still successful. but you wouldnt understand that since you haven't had car made this century
  7. Well besides having he Shelby Mustang GT500 hunting deer the first 10-15 minutes of the movie, the Expedition plays a major roll and the Escape makes an appearance at the end of the movie. But the most interesting thing I saw in the movie was when Will Smith was walking down Times Square....dead smack in the middle of the advertising was a billboard for a 2009 Ford Interceptor! :shades: Yep Same car as the concept...wonder if Ford is doing some subliminal advertising for it now
  8. While I agree about the how younger people might turn their noses at American cars in general, but I take issue with the Mustang comments, do you seriously think that the WRX or EVO is any cheaper to insure? Heres a perfect example: I had a 98 Mustang GT, fully insured at $2400 a year at 24 years old with a perfect driving record I then got a 02 SVT Focus, which cost me $2100 a year when I was 28 years old When I got my 06 Mustang GT at 31, the Insurance was $1400 a year, down from $1600 a year on a 4 year old SVT Focus! This past year I was paying $1200 a year, but that will go up due to an accident I had in September. I live in NJ where you get totally raped when it comes to Insurance, when I had my 98 Mustang GT at 25 years old (when you get your first break for Insurance due to age) I was getting quotes of $7K a year with a perfect driving record! Automatic transmissions are becoming more popular in EVERY car then manuals, IIRC only 10-15% of the market buys a Stick. An auto equiped Mustang GT isn't anything to sneeze at...I was plesently suprised at how well it got up and went when I test drove one (I have the 5 speed in mine BTW)
  9. hey you forgot brass and links from the ammo! I dunno how they made their way into the engine compartment on a Bradley, but they did! Plus with the Bradley, we could get the pack out in about 30 minutes or so with an overhead lift...good packaging makes a huge difference in doing that type of work
  10. Well since the 2005 Mustang Launched, V8 sales have been Up vs V6 in recent years. As for the the V8 being a gas hog, try again, The Edge gets the same rated MPG as a Mustang GT. Also Comparing a Mustang GT to a Focus MPG wise, the difference according to the EPA fuel site is roughly $900 dollars a year, which works out to being about an extra $18.75 a week in gas, not very much since I can spend that in a week getting a 20 oz coffee and breakfast sandwich at my local Wawa every morning. All depends on where your portieres are and I don't think that amount is going to break many people, esp when your making a $300-500 car payment on it! The Mustang was never a "practical" car by any measure, it is a popular car for younger people who don't need or want a practical car or as a Second or Third car to use on the weekends or whatnot.
  11. I see no reason why a RWD sedan with a 3.5L V6 won't be able to pull down 25-27 MPG out on the highway. There is a market for RWD Sedan (not a huge one, unless you want fleet sales) but I'm sure that the "poor" MPG they get will be offset by B-class and Hybrids sold in the fleet.
  12. Wow I can't believe what I just read...unlike the Panther, the Mustang is an ICON...and thus why its survived to this day in its current form. Are Panther Fans this seriously fucking stupid?
  13. And why in praytell do you tap on your dash to see if it sounds hollow or solid? Thats about fucking stupid, then again thats expected out of you...
  14. Is it just me or do all the new gen Pony cars have this bloated look to them? I know from certain angles, my Mustang has a thick look to it and from what I've seen of the Challenger and now the Camaro, they do the same thing styling wise.
  15. The last B-52 built is older then most of the men who fly it...we are still stuck building Panthers
  16. Whats the deal with the crazy pricing on cars over there...I was building a FPV and it stickered for $69K AUD which works out to about $61K USD! How much does housing go for and how much is the avg pay rate?
  17. I have to agree with you on that, I drove my parents Sable, while nice it didn't appeal to me at all. As much as I hate to say this, the nicest sedan that I've driven so far recently has been an 08 Jetta...It has great handling, good pickup, decent MPG (well alot better then my Mustang), a great interior and the only let down is in the styling..which is a little blah. The thing I like about it the best is that its fun to drive...
  18. The problem with your argument is the people who normally buy a Fusion or Taurus/500 DO NOT COME TO AUTOMOTIVE MESSAGE BOARDS! Just look at how "busy" the Fusion or Taurus message boards are on here or how many dedicated message boards there are for them. For the most part, people who buy these cars are looking for "car appliances" that get them to and from where they need to go. Also in the case of Fusion and 500, they've only been on the market for a couple years and few have hit used car market where people are more willing to play around with them then when they are under warranty. In regards to the Panther cars....keep the demographics in mind...the vast majority of the buyers are younger (who are more likely to use the internet) and get them used since they are cheap...then this place has a really bad echo camber in here that boil down to about a very vocal half dozen or so supporters of the car...hardly what I would call a majority or large group of consumers. A half of dozen people who love a car isn't going to turn the ship around on it. The same thing happens with the Focus, its a cheap car that attracts alot of young vocal buyers, but all they do is bitch about how screwed up Ford NA is and when something is offered like the SVT Focus, they automatically discount it and say its too expensive, too slow or insert your favorite excuse here. Finally, as for a RWD Sedan from Ford...I'd love them to do it and I wouldn't mind getting one myself, but in no shape or form would I ever ever consider a Panther. It has ZERO aspirational value to me and rates as about as high as a hyundai or Chevy Aveo for a car I would want to be stuck driving in. I drove a TC a couple years ago and it felt like I was driving my couch the way it drove over things. Thats the big issue with the Panther cars...they have no image and nothing short of getting rid of them is going to fix that.
  19. I would (and I did for a couple years )
  20. Parents have a Gold Sable, its very underwhelming in that color, needs to be in a darker color to bring out the cars lines better.
  21. If the BRX doesn't grow in size from the current Torrent or Equinox is going to be a failure..its already giving up 6 inches to the MKX in wheel base. Personally I think its too small to be a Caddy The problem with Lincoln is that Ford was too pre-occupied with Jaguar for far too long and never "fixed" them to start with and thus where we are with both Lincoln and Jaguar at this point in time. As for the MKX and MKZ..yes the share the same doors and greenhouses as their lesser platform mates, but what else is Ford supposed to do? They didn't have any product and doing any more changes then they did would have lead to further days for those models and would hurt Lincoln even more. They did the lesser of two evils and it looks like they will make the Lincoln models even more different then have in the past with the MKS and MkFlex As for Caddy, for all the smoke and sparks they've been putting out over the past couple years, their sales still aren't huge improvements over what they had in the past.
  22. Most people that buy cars have higher expectations then you do when it comes to a new car.... As for dropping the subject....the same tired arguments get brought up by the Panther Mafia with some shifty second hand info trying to back up their shaky points to defend their second hand cars they buy...A very small very vocal community isn't going to save the Panther.
  23. I know you drive a CV and all, but have you ever considered that the refresh was planned before the 500 Launched? The days of leaving things rot on the vine like the CV are long over. So the refresh of the Fusion, F-150 and Mustang in the next 18 months (within 5 years or less after their first launch dates) are because those products aren't successful? :finger:
