  1. I don't know anything about this specific transmission, but adding more cooling capacity to an automatic is never a bad thing. Waaayyyyy different eras and tech, but I added a cooler with a fan on my '78 bronco with a c6 that was getting so hot it was overheating the engine coolant because the coolers were stacked (higher stall converter in trail riding speeds didn't work out so well lol), but it made a huge difference. I know there's not much room in modern vehicles to add more coolers, but if you can find room I don't see how adding another cooler in line wouldn't help, this was a common thing to do at least up until the e4od in half ton and larger trucks when you added more power or load to extend transmission life.
  2. I always forget about that one. Guess it's not here because of production capacity? or too much overlap with current explorer?
  3. Just some thoughts reading through all the comments, not sure if I have a point or if it's been covered yet but Would it make sense to expand cd6 with a 'halo' Continental and maybe a 4 dr mustang to better utilize the platform and give explorer better margins while giving Lincoln and Mustang more lines? Or another route, leaning into the offroad theme... moving it to ranger based and more in line with the original/going after the 4 runner with body on frame and the ability to give more offroad trims? Moving more toward Bronco but with a fixed roof and a little better road manners/nvh all while consolidating platforms and dropping cd6? Or would this hurt mustang coupe since it shares some with cd6? Not sure it would have the same appeal for police use being body on frame and might hurt mainstream sales losing the car like ride.
  4. To be fair, most of Tesla's "recalls" are just OTA software updates. They really need to start differentiating or not classifying certain things as recalls.
  5. 6:57 on a wet track is pretty impressive. Looking forward to more
  6. Sounds like sub 7 minute if they put this teaser out...
  7. Talking about the different engine options... Good friend of mine has a newer bronco with the 4 banger/manual trans. We did an event called the 24hrs of Appalachia last year with it and I drove a decent amount. That thing rips even on 37" tires. Computer rev matching shifts made it stupid simple to drive in some pretty hairy situations and I wasn't wanting for more power. When it came time to drive home through the mountains at highway speed we were blowing past our Jeep buddy on any grade.
  8. As an enthusiast it sounds cool, but it doesn't really make sense with the quiet flight thing and the fact that all they sell are cuv/suv now. I think some class leading hp numbers might help some, but going full harsh/sport in a brand that is selling on being a 'sanctuary' doesn't compute. Stupid power and smooth/composed/quiet yes, going after 'ring numbers.. not so much.
  9. I only bought 5 around the IPO, wasn't making much money back then. Have 160 at ~11.90 average cost now so I'm not too far in the hole anymore, might make a few bucks some day lol
  10. I bought at IPO, which was a dumb move looking back, but I figured with Ford backing them and Amazon backing them they were unstoppable. We see what happened with the Ford deal. I've bought a lot more recently and have a much better average cost, there's some things on production and engineering they need to figure out to lower production cost, but they have some really solid product so far. Still consider them a risk, but we'll see what happens as their new models come out.. I personally think they're the only start up that's going to survive out of the ev companies, but time will tell. Edit to add: They'll never reach TSLA levels of valuation because they just build cars. Tesla is FAR more than just a car company, even if most don't want to admit that.
  11. Maybe I missed it in the article, but would it be electric or a hot version of the 2.3? The steering wheel with the 'brain' seems a little silly. Why take the whole steering wheel for your preferences when your phone can do the same thing if it's connected to it lol
  12. Ford should bring back the 96 F350 7.3 psd with zf5 manual transmission and only build that. I'd pay 60k for a brand new one lol (I know all the reasons they can't/shouldn't, just making a joke). Closing in on 400k miles on mine and I'd drive it across the country tomorrow. My 2010 250 with ~140k miles scares the crap out of me every time I start it wondering what's going to break next. '17 mkc has been pretty decent so far besides some evap issues with the capless gas filler. That's the newest Ford I own.
  13. A pushrod v8 making the same hp makes way more tq at a lower rpm than a dohc v8. Even the ecoboost makes more tq than the coyote. It's an awesome engine for light cars and does pretty good in the 150, but don't act like it has the grunt needed for a superduty class vehicle.
  14. Came here to say this as well, I see it's been discussed and I'm not really convinced, but I never did finish my engineering degree so... Seems to me adding the cost and complexity and relatively low tq numbers of a DOHC v8 doesn't really make sense in a generator application. Smaller displacement godzilla or even one of the smaller ecoboost v6s with big tq numbers make more sense in my head, though that would add even more complexity and fuel consumption under heavy load with a turbo is tricky. Honestly don't like these EREV things, seems like a lot of different crap to go wrong. It's a good stop gap measure, but I personally think they'll end up obsolete sooner than later as battery tech evolves. A superduty one does fit my personal use case right now though. 99% <100 miles a day towing ~10k with a couple big road trips towing several hundred miles per year.
  15. The 5.4 and 6.8 were called Triton. I think Lincoln versions of the 4.6/5.4 were called intec or something like that. I think Coyote was just an internal code name, much like godzilla, that got out. Coyote shares the same bore spacing, but not much else interchanges from what I've gathered over the years. I consider them all mod motors because they share the same bore spacing which was the point of making the 'modular' engines, if they shared the same bore spacing the machining would be easier/cheaper. IIRC, the bore spacing is so narrow because when they were being designed Ford thought it was a good idea to turn v8s sideways and stuff them in front wheel drive cars so a narrow bore spacing made them less wide when facing the wrong way.
  16. I can't wait until all the idiots staring at their phone while driving have full self driving so I don't have to constantly drive like they could pull out in front of me at any second while I'm pulling 10k lbs around. It's exhausting driving the work truck with the little cuvs and nissan altimas near me.
  17. I see a lot of "you don't need that" "what's the point of that?" "why do you need more power?" "something else to fail" etc in here. I think the guys saying these things definitely aren't the target audience of a luxury brand. The entire point of a luxury car is having ridiculous things that the poor's cars don't have. My 64 continental has POWER VENT WINDOWS. I giggle every time I hit the button to open them because it's so ridiculous. If I remember correctly it was also the most powerful v8 at the time (it's a dog with the weight of the thing, but it cruises nice on the highway). Luxury cars aren't supposed to make sense or be practical/logical. They're supposed to be so over the top that the people that can afford them spend whatever the brand wants to charge to get them. With limited production space as I've read in here, wouldn't it make more sense to add as many "useless" features as possible to get the ATP as high as possible with the same volume? The 'spa on wheels' thing is pretty cool though and I think it looks pretty good besides that lower vent on the front. I'm not a buyer either at I'm guessing over 100k and no real use for a vehicle like this, but I understand the complaints of the actual potential buyers in here that are disappointed in another "you almost had it" effort by Lincoln.
  18. I just stream pandora through android auto. It's free and works for me around here. Cell service gets a little spotty in certain areas of WV when I head out that way, but someone else's phone usually has signal if mine doesn't. I'm sure you could add an external CD player in if it bothers you that much, but reality is the majority of people don't use CDs anymore.
  19. I did say -possibly- niche. Sales have fallen off recently, maybe (probably) because of pricing issues. But you correct the pricing to move them and there goes the huge margins. Time will tell if they can keep it hot, there was obviously a lot of built up demand because it was gone for so long too. Mustang sold like crazy when s197 debuted and now not so much, right? Don't get me wrong, I like the icon products and they make sense right now, just raising concern that the boring product, while not as dramatic and interesting to us fans, is at least consistent in sales volume, even if margins aren't as high. Toyota has done pretty well with lame, boring, reliable commuters for people that aren't car people. If the economy gets worse the high end products are usually the ones to take the hit while people spend their money on 'sensible' transportation. Also not upset about fusion or focus, just don't get the escape and edge moves. They've been around for 20+, haven't they? Agree with you ecosport too. Actually agree with you on all of it, the Edge killing and treatment of Escape in recent years just rubs me wrong for some reason - even if the EVs that were supposed to replace it were here and great. E series has been a parts bin of last gen F-series products for as long as I can remember, I don't think it's going anywhere any time soon.
  20. Well, my sooper poopy is used for towing ~10k lbs on a set route 4-5 days out of the week, no day more than 75 miles total and less than 200 miles for the week. Sits in the driveway still hooked to the trailer while I drive my other toys when I'm not working. No highway driving, so plenty of regen. Home every night to charge. A BEV 250 is exactly what I want and need, the half ton BEVs aren't quite enough truck for my use. I know tons of other contractors/small business people in similar situations that would benefit greatly from one, but as I'm sure you know most contractors and owners of small business let politics get in the way of rational thinking on BEVs for some reason. Fuel is my largest expense behind payroll. Obviously you wouldn't try to tow a 40ft 5th wheel camper hundreds of miles with a bev super duty unless you like sitting at chargers, well at least not until batteries/charging speed improve for the large packs. That'd be great for the long range towing guys that everyone in every comment section thinks they are. Personally don't want or need that, but it would certainly placate a lot of buyers that think they need that, and give the ones that actually do a viable electrified option.
  21. Interested in electrified sooper poopy.... hopefully that means bev and not a hybrid.
