New Light & Medium Duty News
Mad Hatter replied to Joe771476's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
Correct; made in France. Ford owned a portion of Richier, and some models had Ford engines. So, I would be inclined to consider them, unlike (say) a Vermeer grinder or Smith compressor using just a Ford engine. -

Let's remember the heavy equipment side, too-backhoes, rubber-tire loaders and excavators. -
Hypothetical Build - F150 hybrid or Diesel?
Mad Hatter replied to jpd80's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
No, Ford made pickups with four-cylinder engines in the '40s. http://fordofwestmemphis.blogspot.com/2009/01/1940-1949-ford-trucks.html It specifically calls out 1941 and notes civilian production stopped for WW II. Although that was long before my time, I'm aware there still was civilian sales, but they were severely curtailed on a need basis determined by the government. I seem to recall reading that the 9N engine was available throught the war period. I also found a link to an IH pickup (not Scout) with a four-cylinder engine from 1964. I'm not too familiar with their vehicles and nomenclature, so I can't say when it stopped. http://www.hemmings.com/hmn/stories/2011/04/01/hmn_feature9.html -
Really liked the Red Line.

Hypothetical Build - F150 hybrid or Diesel?
Mad Hatter replied to jpd80's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
International Harvester had some 4-cylinder pickups in the '60s..maybe into the '70s. Basically half of the respective V-8 they offered. -
They'll walk it back by probably saying something like "we kept it steel where it matters, and took weight off to make it even more fuel-efficient".

Jalopnik Posted the Continental Concept
Mad Hatter replied to ZanatWork's topic in Lincoln Continental Forum
No, I never said they copied Ford. I said they and others were evolutionally influenced by the soft styling. I say that because that was a new paradigm in design that set the template for the future. It was as extraordinary as the '61 Continental in dragging design out of the previous decade. -

There is undeniable similarities to the Flying Spur and XJ. However, it is sufficiently different. But maybe Bentley needs to acknowledge how they and others were evolutionally influenced by the Telnack-era Fords. -
2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel: Ike Gauntlet Extreme Towing [Video]
Mad Hatter replied to Mad Hatter's topic in Competing Products
Indeed. And the testers even mused on how long it took to get them a truck and how it was spec'ed. They knew Ram was leery of this comparison in adverse conditions. -

I'm glad to see some chrome and traditional style but with modern sensibilities, also. -

Not terribly impressive other than economy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=bpcJJxhvPWU For S&Gs, here's the link to the 2.7 EB test in 2/2015. http://www.tfltruck.com/2015/02/2015-ford-f-150-2-7l-ecoboost-ike-gauntlet-extreme-towing-video/

Jalopnik Cites BON On 2017 Continental
Mad Hatter replied to Mad Hatter's topic in Lincoln Continental Forum
I don't think that's velour. It's suede or more likely Alcantara. I'm sure all-leather is planned. I hope LMC doesn't use the overdone theme of diamond-pattern quilting or perforations. -

That car has swagger. Make it. And offer a LWB and V8. -

My mistake. I fixated on the 250 part since the 6.2 isn't an issue for 150s.

I would rather see the 5.0 as the base engine than the 2.7EB, if that was the case. I know the TQ peaks a little higher in the 5.0, and it's not going to be as flat. But I think the 2.7 will be overworked in a vocational role in a 250. Why no manual transmission option in light trucks?

Social Responsibility with Neighbors to the South
Mad Hatter replied to FormerFordEmp's topic in Executives & Management
Those employees are likely not moonlighting as runners of various contraband. And I'll guess they are not officeholders, since governmental salary+graft is surely more lucrative than a line job. I'd even venture a guess they probably help anchor their community by having something worthwhile for employment and employer. Suppose Ford did close those plants. Would it be reasonable to presume the former employees might turn to crime? Trespass into this country illegally? Ford move production to another third-world nation? Believe me, I hate the flow of drugs and wetbacks into this country, and policies that ignore or pay lip service to the metaphorical elephant in the room. But punishing those that are working and unaccountable for the sins of others isn't reasonable. -
Why no manual transmission option in light trucks?
Mad Hatter replied to Sevensecondsuv's topic in Executives & Management
I *think* it's a legacy Mercedes-sourced model made in Brazil and used in MD trucks abroad. The CTD is limited to ~650 ft/lb tq.with that transmission, and with the Aisin automatic, it's what, ~850 ft/lb? I imagine that would make some reconsider a manual. Those ZF transmissions were pure gold. The slave cylinders (who made them; Valeo?) were pure sh*t. -
Interesting article about new Ford GT
Mad Hatter replied to fuzzymoomoo's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
I trust Ford put more consideration into the engine choice than that strained logic of "truck engine heritage". The article read something like the author worked backwards to mollify his dismay. -
http://blog.caranddriver.com/this-is-why-the-all-new-2016-nissan-titan-looks-the-way-it-does/ What’s your inspiration for this design? DA: We’re a small design team, so the interior and exterior design teams got together to brainstorm, “What is Titan?” All of a sudden you started seeing things on the sketch wall: Gladiators, scenes from 300, warriors. We started to think, “We are titans.” That stylized “T” logo is designed after a warrior’s mask. We’re not cowboys, we’re warriors, and this whole front end is inspired by a warrior mask. There’s a huge muscle going down the body side, and biceps and leg muscles over the wheels. That’s the fighter in the Titan. The domestics do a more architectural design style. We’re more anatomical.

New Ford GT officially official
Mad Hatter replied to PREMiERdrum's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
Congratulations to FMC. IMO, it's not altogether attractive, and I am somewhat dismayed there's no V-8. Still, it's got good lines from some angles (dat ass ), and it ought to be quite light. So I'm not concerned that the EB isn't capable of the role.
