  1. https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2023/02/07/ev-battery-power-your-home/ He has cut his monthly energy bill from about $220 to $8 per month. “I’m not a rich person, but it was relatively easy,” says Graham “You wind up in a magical position with no [natural] gas, no oil and no gasoline bill.” anyone with an EV: An enormous home battery on wheels that can reverse the flow of electricity to power the entire home through the main electric panel. Beyond serving as an emissions-free backup generator, the EV has the potential of revolutionizing the car’s role in American society, transforming it from an enabler of a carbon-intensive existence into a key step in the nation’s transition into renewable energy. America’s grid is not in good shape. Prices are up and reliability is down. Since 2000, the number of major outages has risen from less than two dozen to more than 180 per year, based on federal data, the Wall Street Journal reports. The average utility customer in 2020 endured about eight hours of power interruptions, double the previous decade. You can even buy one today: The Ford F-150 Lightning, an all-electric version of America’s best-selling pickup truck. It’s scrambling the economics of home energy. Ford changed how customers saw their trucks when it rolled out a hybrid version of the F-150, says Ryan O’Gorman of Ford’s energy services program. The truck doubles as a generator sporting as many as 11 outlets spread around the vehicle, including a 240-volt outlet typically used for appliances like clothes dryers. During disasters like the 2021 ice storm that left millions of Texans without electricity, Ford dealers lent out their hybrid F-150s as home generators. The Lighting, the fully electric version of the F-150, takes the next step by offering home backup power. Under each Lightning sits a massive 98 kWh to 131 kWh battery pack. That’s enough energy, Ford estimates, to power a home for three days (10 days if rationing). “The vehicle has an immense amount of power to move that much metal down the road at 80 mph,” says O’Gorman. Installing the extra hardware will cost about $5,000. (Ford includes the bidirectional charger with its premium models). Home wiring upgrades, or an optional solar array, would push the cost higher. Even at that price, the F-150 may be the cheapest home battery on the market. Take the $56,000 F-150 Lightning. With the standard 98 kWh battery, it offers energy storage equivalent to seven Tesla PowerWalls ($15,500 each installed) for about half the price per kWh. So, for slightly over the U.S. median car price of $50,000, you get a home battery and a car. As Graham realized after his last power outage in New Mexico, electrifying your life means rethinking how your vehicle is connected to everything else. In the future, our cars will be plugged into our homes and other intelligent devices, trading electricity with each other and the outside world.
  2. I was part of turning a company around, this was over 30 years ago, from a manager/dictator whose idea was to make everything so complicated that everyone would think he was a genius. I was asked to take over for him even though I maybe knew 30% as him as he wanted to always be the smartest in the room. We began by eliminating as many steps from his procedures and recipes, this was a textile dyeing co., and getting everyone's help. One of the biggest steps was being sure everyone could admit to their mistakes, the local workforce, to be sure we fixed the right problem. We described it as rebuilding a bridge why standing on it. The average formula had mayge 8 to 13 dyes and maybe took 6 to 12 hours to complete. We eventually had no formulas with more than 4 dyes and most only 3 and dye cycles reduces by over 60%. It took us 2 years but was completely successful but only when upper management bought in.
  3. yes, found camera on Amazon and youtube video to replace, wife and I did ours in about 1 1/2 hours and was easy. dm for particulars
  4. My C-Max has ~110K and other than recalls the only issue I have had is the rear camera went out. 9 1/2 years and NO reliability issues. I did replace the windshield wipers. Getting over 50 MPG but disclaimer I do drive for best MPG.
  5. just for me if a provider has an issue and takes care of the problem and treats me with respect that always makes a positive impression and I remember them for it
  6. not saying it would make a difference but how would these charts look if they were comparing increases in percentage, not just raw data; would there be a significant difference?
  7. had a '63 Fiat 600 that I drove on logging trails and thru ? under interstate highways as a 16 YO and even flipped on its side on a dirt motorcycle race track. GOOD DAYS
  8. I guess it depends on how old you are and how long you will be driving, gasoline maybe an issue but you can get a still and make your own. And if we don't stop burning fossil fuel if you own that property it may be oceanfront sometime in your lifetime.
  9. did not mean force, just incentivizing by providing a better way to get there also you are not being forced to buy EV's, you can get new ICE's for 12 more years and then you can but used forever
  10. had an uncle who was sponsored on TV and radio by White Lilly Flour with the tagline, 'White Lilly the Cadillac of the Flours'. Not always the product but the cache'
  11. the Dwight Eisenhower Interstate Highway System says hello without which the auto industry would not be so BIG
  12. just had a neighbor today who is very conservative talk about my hybrid and he talked openly progressive about a HPEV which caught me by surprise. I believe the tipping point may be sooner than you have stated but then again you may be correct.
  13. also gasoline will be replaced with mountain dew, all the future anti-BEV will be stocking up on corn ?
  14. also delivery system without leaks, per my reading this has to be answered first. EU really struggling with it.
  15. and some bet both ways, shorts and longs. It is like playing checkers and playing give away, I just could never get that right ?
  16. I too am priced out of the market and driving a 10 YO C-Max with 107k miles but the car is great and just installed new tires so good for another 5 years, by then the market will have rebounded and looking for an EV.
  17. just me but I'm not certain Elon is the best to describe money management after buying twitter and destroying it as it appears he is doing to me, but then I'm not a multi billionaire
  18. quality was achieved with the 1st Taurus but then money became the MOST important measure. GREED is the internal enemy and until HE is defeated there will be no long-term quality.
  19. 6 sigma is a bastardized version of quality. The standard SPC chart is all that is needed and also all that will work. Demming had the answer 40 years ago and he is still correct. https://deming.org/explore/fourteen-points/ variation is the problem variation must be measured. understood and removed accurate and precise measurement system are the foundation and yes, Farley is correct, it will take years and when quality is achieved is a place we will never arrive so we should enjoy the journey as the destination will never be reached
