Funny thing is, those fleet stats everyone quotes are not even from the first 6 months of the year (as the report is titled).
Using the Avenger as an example since that is the one everyone is ballyhooing about.
In the fleet report everyone likes to quote, it states TOTAL YTD sales of 12,604.
In Chrysler March 2007 sales report, the Avenger had already sold 15,515 YTD.
So, I can assume that fleet report is through sometime around mid February, when the Avenger was on sale for approximately 5-6 weeks. Since many domestic manufacturers send a sizable amount of their initial production of a new car to fleets, I'm not surprised at the high number of fleet sales. I'd like to see what the percentages are now for a true assessment.
Basically, as most have said, that entire fleet/retail pdf is rubbish when trying to figure out true fleet sales. Its released at a time most auto manufacturers are heavy on fleet sales (winter), artificially inflating fleet percentages for ALL manufacturers.
