Project-Fairmont
This has to be a April fools joke, I don't even think Ford could be this dumb.. Save the escort name for a B car if they must use it, it's bad enough what they did to the Focus, giving it a name that brings up images of crappy old Escorts doesn't help one bit.. As a car guy one would have to agree it is questionable to rename the Focus. The fact of the matter selling cars is a business - do you get excited over a "Corolla"? I sure don't but it sells and is a very recognizable name. While the Americanized "Euro" Escort of the eitghties was spotty it did get better and the Ninties "Jap" based Escort was and remain very reliable cars - good handiling and with the 1.8 DOHC as fast as any American Focus 'cept perhaps the the short lived SVT. A name change will not guarantee anything, but the Escort name was way more succesful than Focus. Perhaps not carring on with Cavilier and Grand Am is one reason the Cobalt and G6 were so slow out of the gate?

LSFan00
I really do think the pinto name is worth considering again. Honestly, no other small Ford could get that much attention just based on it's name. Now, imagine it being thrown on a just flat out awesome little C2-based wagon with a hybrid/diesel option right out of the gate. Everyone would laugh, joke, and then make a comment about it being a nice little car, actually. Hell, dump it and go back to Focus for the whole lineup after a year. BORG
The new Focuscort is not my cup of tea either. However, I am not going to be so vocal in predicting its failure. Having coasted past the "Don't trust anyone over 30" point last year, and being well into the "If it's too loud, you're too old" phase of my life (I own a Sable, for crying out loud), I am not going to impose my taste on the target customers for this vehicle (college grads, for whom the car is simply a lifestyle accessory). I am not going to predict success for this vehicle, but I am wary of predicting failure. The only thing that might make the Focus appealing to its target audience is Sync, if it works. But it has to be at accessible prices. However, the aesthetic of the car is so bad and unappealing, especially the coupe form. There is no way this vehicle is going to appeal to a consumer base in which Fuckus is poison to anybody's image. If anything, the Focus should have matured since its consumers have always trended older and there is no way the stodgy old Focus can be reinvented like this. By doing this, they appeal to nobody and I'm absolutely certain this will not help sales at all. The market Ford is pursuing is far too fickle to be won over by gimmicks, it has to be legit and this is as illegitimate as it gets.

Roadrunner
I am not going to impose my taste on the target customers for this vehicle (college grads, for whom the car is simply a lifestyle accessory). Whoa - I had to think about your comments before responding. Let's put it this way: I like the new Focus. And, yes, most collegians treat a car as a lifestyle accessory. But for me, a college grad, I expect my Fusion to last to 100,000 miles and I believe it will.
