I haven't heard anything, so I was curious. The daily status reports that I get for scheduled units has been showing our first 2008 Taurus in "Bucked" status since just before the plant started its two week down time. I believe it's actually about to go into production when the plant comes back online. I'm still shaking my head wondering why they would schedule two weeks of plant down time when they're ready to start Job #1 for the 2008 Taurus which is such a great marketing opportunity for Ford. I'd think that they'd want to get the units built and into dealers hands ASAP!

I'd think that they'd want to get the units built and into dealers hands ASAP! We will begin production on 4/30/2007. We will be running a limited amount per day and ramp up from there. We had two weeks off because we balanced out 4/13/2007 and then they needed time to make adjustments to the engine stuffer. I believe body and paint had some things they had to get down as well. They have run some MKS's through paint...I talked to a product specialists and he said Ford is trying to have those in production by September which was news to me because I was always told early 2008, but the sooner the better. As for how it looks...based on the spy pictures here it looks a lot like what I saw at the auto show and the pictures on here. Hope it does well. CAPlineWORKER
did the taurus X start production at the same times as the regular taurus? No...we will begin those I believe in August.
FordBuyer
No...we will begin those I believe in August. Automotive News shows the Taurus X being built to the tune of 1,000 units so far with about 3,000 units of Taurus and 1,000 units of Sable. I thought Job 1 for Taurus X was June, but not according to Automotive News production figures. FordBuyer
I just saw the new edition of Automotive News and it shows increasing production figures for Taurus X......about 2,900 Taurus units built and over 3,000 Taurus X units built through last Friday. Hard to understand how they could be making mistake about this when they produce numbers every week. Btw, Ford has five plants working overtime. Both Kansas City plants, Louisville plant that builds Super Duty, Avon Lake building vans, and Oakville building Edges. Good sign. akirby
Extreme Makeover Home edition gave away a Taurus X and a Taurus Sedan on Sunday's show. That had to be taped at least a month ago so I assume they were pre-production units?

akirby
i don't understand that cause there is no ok to ship yet cause of issues that still need to be resolved It's a Ford sponsored TV show - they could have just been props for the show and the actual vehicles will be delivered later. boredofford
what kind of issues? the motor is bolted to the body instead of a k member and the liquid filled motor mounts arn't right ,a sealer problem that is being corrected on the line in trim and there are probraly others but not unusual for a new launch. exkuse the spellin

Coppermine33
Taurus get shockling good mileage for 265HP and a heavy car. Yeah, I was thinking that myself. How is it that it can get 18 city 28 highway with 2008 ratings while the Fusion is lighter, has a smaller engine and also has a 6 speed but gets 18 city 26 highway? That is pretty pathetic. FordBuyer
Gearing. Maybe, but remember V6 Fusion has about 18 more hp with dual exhaust and whatever else Ford did to improve power over the 500, and is probably a second quicker to 60mph with Car and Driver getting 0-60 time of 7.1 out of it. One thing that did puzzle me is that 2006 Fusion got 29mpg rating from EPA for highway, and 2007 dropped down to 28mpg highway for the V6. Not sure, but I would imagine Fusion should do maybe 1mpg than 500 in mixed driving. I suspect the new Taurus highway mileage will drop down to 27 highway with new EPA ratings and more power than 500. Not a bad tradeoff for almost 60 more hp.
