2010+ Super Duty

A hunk of floor that is angled for your left foot to rest on while you drive. It's a great feature I first found on a 95 740iL. Most luxury cars have them, not sure how many other cars have it.

 

Our BMW has one....I believe our F-150 has a sad excuse for one....a square of rubber-type material that's as flat as the rest of the floor.

Fusions I drove had them. I fould them to be completely useless becuase they were placed wrong for the way I rest my feet.

 

That's a good point as well.....they need to be placed the right way as well, if they're in an awkward position, they're almost useless.

An option for air ride on all four corners with the shocks mounted separate from the airbags (for easy maintenance)

 

Three suspension settings

 

High 1" above normal ride height (firmer ride)

 

Normal

 

Low 2" below normal ride height ( for parking garages, better fuel economy, hooking up trailers, and a softer ride)

 

 

All settings available up to 55 mph, any speed higher only normal or Low can be selected.

Just to keep this thread going - SD wishlist

 

 

- Functional and sturdy dead pedal

 

- 6 spd auto w/ tow haul mode, regular drive, and "auto stick" mode

 

- Center console as nice as the one in the 09 150's or better

 

- New 4x4 engagement option - transfer case lever on the floor next to the center console with 2wd, N, 4Hi, and 4Lo AND a switch that engages the vacuum hubs independent of the lever (this gives the driver an option to use 2wd Low Range)

 

- Real wood on the dash!

This is what I would do: Drop all Super Duty basic configurations except long bed regular cab and long bed crew cab, either available as 2WD or 4WD, SRW or DRW. 10,000# base GVW rating. Drop all trim levels except XL. Drop all special editions (King Ranch, Amarillo, Harley Davidson, F-450 pickup). Drop all comfort and convenience options, such as power seats, power windows, ect.. Offer only basic interiors with rubber floor mats and cloth or vinyl heavy duty seats, grey only. Under the hood, 4.4L diesel V-8 or 6.2L flex-fuel V-8. Torq-Shift automatic or 6 speed manual. Steel 17" wheels. Continue heavy duty chassis options, Tow-Command, off-road package, and snow plow package. Air conditioning standard, AM/FM stereo standard. AM/FM stereo with MP3 and CD optional. THAT'S IT! Why? Because within 5 years the Super Duty will be sold as a commercial vehicle only.

Got a bad feeling that's where the heavy duty pickup market is going. What I see around is that better than half of the Super Duty pickups are fully loaded models being driven around empty by young guys. Nothing wrong with that, but should diesel (or gasoline, for that matter) hit $7/gal., I don't think anyone is going to be driving these things unless they really need to. Particularly someone with a lousy job living paycheck to paycheck. I'll bet a lot of those current Super Duty owners will be looking at the upcoming F-100 really hard.

While I have no doubt the segment will shrink (it already is) and lose "casual" buyers, I believe there will always be some sort of retail market for Super Duties. IMO, there will always be contractors, etc. that want a very capable, yet luxurious truck.

Here's an idea for a new Tow Boss model - a single rear wheel F-350. With high fuel prices the SRW would save fuel over the dually option.

 

Wide trac front axle from F-450 (maybe narrowed a bit)

F-350 dually or F-450 rear axle (the rear track should match the front - so slightly wider than a standard SRW)

Brakes from F-450 front and rear

19.5" wheels and tires to nearly match the rear GAWR of a F-350 dually

4.30 gears with locking front and rear diffs

Gear vendors overdrive for driving w/o a trailer (driver would have the choice of 4.30 or roughly 3.40 gears)

2.5" Receiver

Optional wide rims and tires for brush fire trucks

Crew Cab

Long and short bed options (the turning radius of a SB CC wide track would make me buy one)

There is nothing like the quality sound of a solid door closing. The SD is in need of doors that close like a current BWM sedan or Land Rover SUV.

 

I like the idea of forged steel door hinges. The driver's door is starting to sag on my SD from using the door to help me jump in - and no I'm not overweight!

Personally, I'd pass on the console shifter, I can't stand them on trucks. SYNC system for sure, but hopefully that will come before 2010. And an all black Lariat interior.

I agree. Leave the bench seat as standard and have the console be an option. First, these are UTILIY VEHICLES so the front bench adds more room for CREW in the CREW cab..... Also, My Sheltie likes to sit between my wife and I on the way to the races.....

I don't think the console/shifter needs to be standard, but it should be optional at least, or vice versa. I personally am a fan of the console shifter.

7Mary3, You are truly a man after my own heart. I also believe that the Super Duty line should be more utilitarian as well. I have been around to all my local ford dealers in the last 3-4 weeks looking for my dream truck, but to no avail. I want a 2009 XL crew cab long bed, V10, manual, 4:30 rear, trailer package, 60/40 cloth bench, well you get the idea. But, all the local dealers have are Lariats and King ranches, with auto trans, short beds and long option lists. I have realized I will have to order my "odd-ball" configuration to get it. But the lots are full of the fancy trucks just sitting there. Come on dealers, some of us want real work, towing type trucks with full size beds without all of the icing and eye candy. Stock a few!

 

If 7Mary3's prediction is correct, I for one will welcome his vision for the realignment of the Super Duty truck line.

I did not notice a dead pedal in the 08's.

 

sport mode would also improve accelerator pedal lag on gas trucks

 

Front leafs = no "death wobble" = feel safe at higher speeds

 

Coils can break just like leafs over time (ie most escorts have broken rear coils), but if properly engineered and mfg'd they don't seem to break often

my 97 expedition has an air ride that raises,lowers and levels the truck

i think if you drop all the exstas than you will lose alot of the market, one of the reasons ford sells more trucks are the feachers, all the little things that you see chevy and dodge useing years after ford.

for example my 97 expedtion has the signal mirrors now i see them in alot of full sized chevys.

when i see a big truck co,ing at with lights on the mirrors i know its a superduty. look at toyota

alot of the featchure on the tundra (mirror lights) are ones you see on the ford trucks.

im actly looking for a new superduty and the only well equiped trucks the seem to keep are the 450.

the local ford dealer around me (beechmont ford)seems to be moving the higher end lariet and king ranches but they also seem to keep the lo end work trucks in stock too.

the eye candy is what brings chevy,dodge and toyota people to the ford showrooms.
