RangerM
I was at TTAC reading another unrelated article: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/news-blog...share-collapse/ The crux of the article was unrelated to Mazda, save for the following: "....we hear that Ford's honoring its pledge to cut back on fleet sales by giving the job to Mazda, accounting for the lion's share of their Japanese "partner's" reported growth." Anyone heard of this?
J-150
haven't heard this yet. in the short term I don't think its a bad idea. Get a lot of people driving Mazdas that otherwise would never look at one.
Edstock
Given that they don't have a giant dealer network, it might actually be a good idea.

Wanderinglost
I didn't read the article, but I can say that the Mazda 6 that we currently build at AAI took a huge fleet order recently. I think they are dumping the old 6 into the fleet market before they role out the redesigned 6 sometime this coming year. It's not much but it's what I know. focus05
Ford does not dictate to Mazda how much to sell to fleets. Mazda runs independently of Ford overall. So, if Mazda is ramping up (like ALL the Japanese makes are), then it is Mazda's decision. Not Ford's.
twintornados
Maybe Mazda will roll out a D3 chassis car (Taurus, Sable, MKS) and call it the Mazda9 for fleet use only...or maybe a panther chassis vehicle and call it the Mazda12??? waymondospiff
The theory is flawed: Mazda may be ramping up fleet sales, but it's not as if Mazda could ever "replace" Ford's fleet sales without a significant uptick in volume. The (old) Taurus turned more than 20K/month in pure fleet volume. This past everal months has seen a sales rate for the Mazda6 is around 4-7K/month. Even if those are nothing but fleet that'd still be a drop in the bucket compared to the (old) Taurus's volume. And I doubt Mazda would be trying to ramp up production of the Mazda3 in Japan so they can simply sell them for little/no profit here in the US. Igor the hertz place i drive by often because its close to home should have hyundai and toyota signs, most of its cars these days are exactly that. most customers would confuse it with a car lot. Since when did TTAC ever make any sense or have any real credibility anyways?
RangerM
Since when did TTAC ever make any sense or have any real credibility anyways? I have no problem with TTAC. I just consider them another frequency in a sea of pink noise.
