Explorer4X4
More examples of typical Honda quality and their "owner friendly" approach to customer care. Mind you, this news comes directly after the 270,000 Acura TL's recalled about a month ago. A bunch of Honda owners are mad because they think Honda should issue a recall on their cars due to their transmission, things like randomly deciding to pop out of third gear into neutral and not fully engaging. When these owners confront Honda, the car company kept saying "we've never heard of the problem before," despite numerous complaints being sent in, and dealers say they "can't replicate" the problem. There's a writeup of the whole problem at AuotmotiveTech.org, a list of message board forum members with the problem, and now, Fox 6 San Diego picked up on it after angry owners organized a protest at a local dealership. Suddenly, Honda's tune has changed, and they're "aware of the problem" and "investigating." Video after the jump. - The Consumerist, Click here for link to article and news video. Basically a load of '07 and '08 Civic Si owners were all having similar problems with transmissions, Honda ignored them, then the news got wind of the story and made a big deal out of it. Coincidentally soon after Honda complied and said they are now aware of the problem and are working to fix it.
papilgee4evaeva
The last thing Honda needs to do is start behaving like Toyota.

Furious1Auto
I have saved the Link for later arguements! It's one thing to have product issues but quite another to act like they do not exist! Edited March 15, 2008 by Furious1Auto
blazerdude20
it mostly affects 06 and 07 models of the si. havent heard of any of the 08's having it. for 2008 honda changed the tranny fluid to a new better quality one. if you bring in your si with the gear shift problem the dealer will change the fluid for you. they dont seem to have a fix some reason (bad synchros?). its a problem with almost all of their six speeds. the bad part is that if people dont get it taken care of it spreads to gears 2 and 4. check 8thcivic.com , its like this board and the cv's... every thread ends up as a third gear disscussion Edited March 16, 2008 by blazerdude20

range
I thought Honda and Toyota never has any problems to report? I thought Honda and Toyota always "did the right thing?". That's what I read here on BON. It doesn't sound like Honda "did the right thing" here or here or here Honda Odometer Class Action Settlement or here Honda Advertises Inflated Horsepower Numbers

Michael Reynolds
Honda generally made somewhat decent manual transmissions. Their automatics on the other hand, well lets just say that I would never own a 5-spd auto/V-6 combo made by Honda. BTW how is the Consumerist mainstream media P_71? That's what everyone around here bitches about.
