putt
We are scheduled to run production this Saturday day shift. I'll be far from the plant spending quality time with my family. Dingie, why don't you just hop into the HOV lane like the rest of us one occupant vehicle drivers? I leave later than you and get to work before you. Why wake up the sleeping giant, let him be, he'll take over this forum again and again and again, he is a very lonely individual
Trimdingman
Why wake up the sleeping giant, let him be, he'll take over this forum again and again and again, he is a very lonely individual The traffic on the QEW is of great concern to people who work at OAC and have to use it every day. It is also of great concern to the Ford Motor Company who is dependent on it to get parts delivered on time. Because of some greenie Liberals running the province, that is in jeapordy. They can't admit that they screwed up on that HOV lane, so we all have to suffer for it. Maybe it will ultimately be a factor in Ford's decision of where to source future products. This is big OAC news, but the socialists are blind to it. To them, Liberals can do no wrong. I have 12 grand-children who love their "Papa". They don't let me be lonely. The HOV cuts at least 30 minutes off my total commute from Hamilton each day. I'm not suffering at all. We all have choices to make, and I chose to join up with my fellow employees to take advantage of my tax dollars hard at work. Nothing like zooming past slow moving traffic, relaxing in the back seat 2 out of 3 days a week.

Nothing like zooming past slow moving traffic, relaxing in the back seat 2 out of 3 days a week. The majority of working people find it impractical to car pool. That is not going to change. We paid our share of taxes to build the extra lane, and we are fed up. Traffic would move along just fine with four lanes available to everybody. Now, only one lane moves, and the other three crawl. This does not improve air quality; it makes it worse. This is part of the socialist war on the car. Cars give people too much freedom for the socialists' liking. We work in the auto industry. We need to fight this, not go along with it like you are.

Trimdingman
Bingo! Give that man a prize. You will read it in the newspaper or see it on TV before we find out anything. The contract is up next year. Don't expect to hear anything before then. Maybe they will open it before June 1st when our COLA is supposed to kick in. Can't have that. All new products up until 2015 have already been announced. Anything extra would be beyond that. I expect the economy to tank soon, so I am expecting the employment situation to deteriorate. fordwindsor
In our current contract, OAC was awarded a vehicle to be introduced during the current business cycle. Other posters stated that the rest of the Freestar line in the final building was being ripped out. I was looking for someone to expand on that. But it seems hardly anyone from OAC posts on here. I might have to give Beck a call.

This is not News Central, just a thread of a topic of a discussion forum of a formerly maverick website that Ford tried to have shut down, but instead somehow "persuaded" them to tone it down. Ah..ah...ah...ah...choo$$$$$$$$$$. Sorry about that. They are starting to build hearses and stretch limos out of MKTs now that the Town Car is gone. Maybe tearing out the old body shop has to do with that. They can always use extra floor space for parking instead of driving them outside. I think that there are plans for a new vehicle in the future, beyond 2015, but nothing has been announced. The letter that talked about removing the Freestar paint building said it was to create space, or something to that effect. Create space for what? fordwindsor
Wow! Thanks Trim. It was hard now was it. Information that is informative thanks. Engines and dash? Doesn't Autoliv have the dash work and its contract had been recently renegotiated. Thanks for the information. More employees of OAC should make use of this thread to get their messages across ( as long as they are relevant)
fordwindsor
That is true as long as it's two tier wages. That would be a disgrace as long as there are 1st tier on layoff.

If you are looking for rumours like the dash line, engine line and cusion room are coming back into the plant (with tier 2 workers doing all those extra jobs), don't ask me. I try to not spread 'possible' scenarios. :tumbleweed:

Trimdingman
That info comes from Automodular liason. They would set up shop in the plant. That is not good. I figured that was coming because they didn't tear the lines out. Next it will be material handling and pre-delivery outsourced. Anyone making Ford wages will soon be in the minority, and considered an old overpaid dinosaur. It is now a crime to earn a decent wage. The jobs being outsourced are mostly jobs held by senior workers. I don't know if that is legal under the Ontario Human Rights Commission. They are not supposed to target senior workers. Since they banned mandatory retirement, "ageism" has been added to the list of protections, along with racism, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc. What if they outsourced a department that was all women, and forced women to take heavier, more strenuous jobs? It would look like they were trying to get rid of the women. Are they trying to get rid of senior workers? Now that Automodular has it's foot in the door, you will see the company pushing to give them more of our work, and our union will be representing them. The writing is on the wall. What about overtime doing repairs? Will they be allowed to do overtime changing dashes or working on engines? The union will be obliged to hear their grievances. Where will the line be drawn between their work and our work? It will be fuzzy. You can bet that there will be new language in the new contract affecting new hires. As the number of full wage workers declines, you will see more and more assaults on our wages and benefits until we all make the same, or are out the door. fordwindsor
No 1st tier are on layoff. Ford of Canada has around 1000 employees on lay-off in Windsor and around 500-800 in St. Thomas who didn't take the buyout. They would have rights to jobs at Oakville before any hiring from the street was done?

They have two huge plants in Oakville. They work regardless of whether Ford workers are laid off. We have Autopark doing shipping, but they are outside in the yard. Those jobs used to be ours, very high seniority jobs; now being done largely by people hired out of a temp agency. They are non-union until they get their time in, which is never because they are casual labor out of a temp agency; which our union used to be against. I have attended brainwash sessions where the union spoke out against temp agencies. Now they are going along with it. It is a disgrace to see how low we have sunk. That is why it is up to each one of us on the shop floor to fill out the cards that our plant chair put in our 707 reporter.Tell him we don't want outside workers in our plant anymore! tell him we want to keep our premium jobs(repairmen, mpl, etc) because we don't want to work on the assembly line our entire time at ford.Enough is enough it's quite clear to me that OUR national union doesn't care about us the membership, all they really want is more members at whatever cost.Including us the first tier worker's.
