PREMiERdrum
Since when is Buick considered to be a luxury brand? Is this a joke? Buick is squarely entry-level luxury these days.
NickF1011
Buick is squarely entry-level luxury these days. Then so is....Ford.
FordBuyer
Auto News and Commentary BMW leads luxo makers for April, Lincoln tops Infiniti, Lexus slips to #4. Full report at link. When talking about Japanese auto companies now and their sales figures, you have to qualify it by mentioning the affects of the earthquake and resulting tsunami and plant closings. Honda dealers can't even order the Fit anymore and about any vehicle made in solely in Japan. It will be close to next year before they are back to normal production schedule as the plants over there battle parts shortages and temporary electrical outages on daily basis. The best company to compare Lincoln to again and again is Cadillac, the only other American luxury brand out there. Buick would best be compared to Chrysler with Mercury gone. Titanium is in its infancy with only Flex and Focus models offered so far. We will see how that experiment goes.
PREMiERdrum
Then so is....Ford. So if you don't think Buick should be included here, what about Acura? What is the difference between the 2 in terms of product and market position? Or, hell, not to open a can of worms, but what about Lincoln's current lineup compared to Buick's? What are the differientiating factors that should keep one on the list, but not the other?

But the only reason Buick is considered luxury is because GM tells you to consider it luxury. It certainly isn't any more luxurious than Ford from a feature standpoint. Base for base, Buick comes more handsomely appointed than Ford, hence its legitimately higher positioning. You have to get into the higher Ford trims before it matches Buick features. What are the differientiating factors that should keep one on the list, but not the other? Base prices of three of its four products below $30,000, including its best-seller (everything but the Enclave)? Base-model cloth-seat versions of three of its four products, including its two top sellers (Enclave and LaCrosse)? Its best-seller and another model (LaCrosse and Lucerne) being priced similarly to direct competitors from Ford and Toyota rather than luxury marques? You don't see any of that from Lincoln or Acura. Half of Buick's lineup is wholly-mainstream large sedans, with two quasi-upscale products in the mix. Very different situation. wish4newstang
That is about where Mercury would sit. If Mercury would have survived, and money had been invested. I bet LIncoln dealers wish they still had thier Mercurys.
NickF1011
I bet LIncoln dealers wish they still had thier Mercurys. For now. In another few years, Mercury will be all but forgotten. And rightly so. For the past several decades it has been a forgettable brand.
