My 2012 Focus has 5000 miles, and everthing on the car is great except for the tranmission shuddering at low, idle speeds. The dealer states it is a break in issue, coutomer srevice says I have to pay for a transmission evaluation. Im taking it into another dealer next week. There are no transmission specialists after 5:00 PM and they dont work on weekends so I will have to get a rental.

I purchased the extended warentee also..

Perfectly normal. You won't notice it after 1000 miles or so.

Are we talking about the slight shudder felt before throttle tip-in from a full stop or when coming to a stop? Seems to be an inherent idiosyncratic trait of this transmission. I'd compare it to the ideal balance between throttle application and clutch application/release in an MTX.

Agree. My car has 3K and occasionally shudders when coming to a stop. Another problem, which is pilot error on my part, is when I shift too soon at low RPM. It "stalls" just like a manual shift without sufficient engine speed. Neither is a big deal to me but I hope you get a better response if this concerns you.

My 2012 Focus is at 8000 miles and the shuddering has only grown worse. The clutches rattle when it shifts gears and it surges at low speed as it tries to figure out what gear it wants to be in. This dual clutch tranny is complete garbage. They should have named this car the Ford Failure. I can't wait to get rid of it.

Haven't heard about many total failures yet. But I have been stranded by the car running out of gas when it said it still had 7 miles to empty. First time I have ever been stranded in a vehicle.

I am more worried about long term durability of the clutches, with them chattering, shuttering and carring on it can't be good for wear.

Well that is your own fault. You do know that the MTE is an average, right? It calculates your average over the last 500 miles (I think), and based on the amount of gas you have left, it figures about how many miles you can drive. If the last 100 miles have been bad fuel economy, you can expect the numbers to be off quite a bit. There was probably a few sips of gas left in the tank that the pump couldn't pump out, and bam, you're out of gas.

I try to explain this to my wife, who says she has 45 MTE. Her response: "I think I can make it to the gas station on the way home". She has to travel about 35 miles before she gets to that gas station. My response: "Don't let it get that that close because I'm not coming to get you!"

With posts like that, you can definitely tell who has been married a while...the newly married guys haven't learned that yet! :hysterical:

Exactly - they still think proving you're right is more important than keeping the peace. Took me a long time to figure that out.

Once they figure out it's better to just keep your mouth shut or just accept the blame even if it wasn't your fault - they'll be a lot happier.

Ain't that the truth! And if Momma ain't happy, well, you know the rest!

Perhaps there are mechanical problems affecting some trannys that don't occur in the others.

Apparently so. I've got no issues or complaints with mine. And yet, I know someone who will not drive his car because the tranny performance is so terrible that it poses a safety hazard in traffic. When last I heard, it had been deposited at the Ford dealership pending diagnosis and repair.

It's a shame, really. MFT and PowerShift seem to be giving this otherwise excellent vehicle two rather big black eyes. Are you listening, Mr. Mulally? Because you can bet that all the friends of those unhappy camper Focus owners will be. Ouch.

Yeah, mine is somewhere in the middle. With A/C OFF it seems to perform much better for whatever reason.

I'm looking at paying off the car and waiting for the 2013 Taurus' to come out. I have no faith in the dealership fixing anything at this point.

You're more forgiving than I am. As soon as I get rid of this Focus I'm done with Ford. I had such hopes for them too. They had a real shot at making pronounced headway in the small car segment with the Focus and Fiesta and just like they always manage to do, they blew it.
