Skilled Working Production Meeting

Agreed,,,,,,I did not hire in as production. So,,while production is delighting in the trades getting their asses kik`d lately, you really dont want trades doing production jobs------EVER.That is the most efficient operation.Feed metal in the machine or spot weld and when the machine breaks you fix it!!!!!DO NOT let the company cross that line of demarcation.

You just described that plant in Monroe Co. (can't remember name) joint effort by chrysler, hundai & somebody engine plant or something

The International has negotiated and posted 25 Rouge retraining opportunities for any of us skilled working in production that wants to voluntarily retrain to become an Electrician or Stationary Steam Trade. The postings are up now. These retraining options will require us to return to college and perform and record all tasks with the trade we select. Talked to the trades unit yesterday and the 1 to 1 replacement has also started with 2 pipefitter postings/openings from 2 Rouge pipefitters retiring. That is already 27 trades’ jobs out of 100 of us returning to trades. The provisions of the new agreement are in place and finally, finally, finally providing a return to our tools.

Thats great news for all the trades guys working in production or laid off. Does anyone know what the total is for trades working in production in Michigan? There has to be more than 100. Plus, once ACH plants get sold, wont that put more trades (and possibly production) "in the system"? I know AAI is adding a shift but thats not for awhile and with all the drama at MAP about will they/wont they, there is still a potential to have many trades not "back on their tools"

How are they filling those 25 spots? D O E or ford seniority

DOE, skilled eligibility should always go by skilled DOE.

I have not seen these postings (please verify if anyone seen these posted) yet but heard 3 machine repair postings at woodhaven and 3 machining specialists for r&e center which are at the zone voluntary part of the hierarchy. That puts the total over 30 new skilled postings in a week :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet: :happy feet:

Are the retraining opportunities going up for all trades, except someone except someone holding the trade being offered???

I believe the posting stated the retraining opportunities were for trades in production and ilo only and only apprenticeable trades and trades hired that served an apprenticeship

or real trades, with REAL cards from the OUTSIDE.... if you know what i mean!

Real cards on the outside? You mean the outside where you couldn't cut it so you had to lower your skills to come to Ford?

BTW where did you get your Jerrymaker card? Jerrymaker University?

Leave room for the rest of us if you are too good to earn a UAW Electrician card or a UAW Stationary Steam Engineer oh great one!

The Ford apprentices will also get State Licenses as well as UAW cards so who are you to judge?.Its really tough to beat that deal.I have a Masters License as well as an electrical Contractor`s license.I got my licenses outside of Ford. You have to remember what Ford wants and needs from its trades:THE LINE TO RUN.So,you learn the area you are assigned to presently.I never had the advantage of an apprenticeship program but wish I did.Unless you are doing residential work consistently even that is different. We work with Specialized Machinery at Ford. Two apprentice programs----that is like an engineering degree. What an advantage!

Yes, the UAW has negotiated a miracle in re skilling these 25 reduced trades currently working in production. I look forward to working with most of you that selected Electrician during your training rotation in Body. BTW Fatso's comment on sitting in his chair and eating cake is just for giggles. We are constantly on the run and the days go by quick (plenty of ot also). Glad the UAW is looking out for you guys and we look forward to training you. This job is no cakewalk so come ready to learn and work.

Oh and jerrymaker please dont select Electrician. We dont need anymore Prima Donna's. You would be better off selecting Steam where you work alone and can sulk in your excellence. Really we dont need Electricians with an attitude like yours.

Im hearing there may be more Machining Specialists postings, should push us up to 40 new openings within the past week.

$100,000 dollar buyouts start leaving in 4 weeks and the postings should start once the March 9th window closes.

Quick question to skilled trades: First off glad to hear alot of you guys should be returning to your tools, but did the union say anything about hiring LTSs or Full timers to replace you guys with a mass exodus of tradesmen working on line and us being shorthanded as it is we hope they will fill you guys 1for1production
