Ford Will Use VW's MEB EV Platform at OAC

In fairness, I doubt many are laying out their long term plans for vehicle development other than evs in order to appease investors.  I really don’t see the bronco as one and done.

Those plans go to sustainable and go hand in hand with investor confidence, Ford is one of the few companies that can do things without substantial influence/ impact from investors but if they ever want to sell stock to raise capital, it’s wise to have a sound plan.

I think F series customers will be most resistant to electrification

If Ford channels its strengths in promotion and PR to communicate the benefits of BEV to existing F-Series customers (which I'm sure they will), Ford won't have any trouble convincing those customers to dump their ICE powered truck and upgrade to electric. And convince them to get a Ford BEV rather than a competitor's.

Ford is already in a good position here. In the recent Cox Automotive electric truck survey, more respondents considered getting a BEV F-150 than Tesla Cybertruck, GMC Hummer EV truck, or Rivian R1T.

If anyone can change truck buyers’ minds it’s Ford,

few thought it would succeed with Ecoboost V6 in its F150

when the common wisdom was that many truck owners

would flat out refuse to give up on their V8 powered trucks.

Now around 70% of F150s sold are V6 powered with people

starting to take up power boost hybrid and a BEV F150 joins

the fray next year. I think ford is on target to begin the

long slow transition to full electric but maybe the task will

be a lot easier than the job facing GM and RAM where the

push on V8s will now act against those owners wanting

to give up their V8s at any cost....we’ll see, interesting times ahead.

I don't disagree with your point about it being a bold move, but almost 240,000 trucks sold in 2020 still represents many buyers who want V8s.

It's actually a lot more than that but keep in mind that I was talking about F150 versus combined F Series but yes,

you're still correct in stating that  V8 buyers still command significant sales in Ford Trucks, maybe even more so

when we consider that ~157k F Series and ~262K Super Duty and Medium Duty as well as another 37k E Series

we're all V8 sales in 2020.  That leaves us with ~367k of V6 F 150 sales last year which was subdued due to covid.

It was a gutsy move to try EB V6 but it paid off because enough buyers embraced it to change Ford's plans for V8s,

I'm hoping that the F150 hybrid / powerboost and next year's F150 BEV again opens eyes to change being better.

I get the feeling that Ford is doing a better job of preparing buyers for change by offering a better transition choice.
