92merc
This is another two bit reviewer who likes to smoke crack and listen to himself speak. The Silverado is no home run for GM. Who is he kidding? And apparently he's totally forgotten that the Expedition is totally new, plus the L version. No new small cars? I guess the Fusion doesn't count. And counting away it does. "Only 100k" vehicles?? WTF is wrong with that? Beats the crap out of what GM will do on it's CUV's. And why is it every car review that has come out lately about a Ford product has to give us the same corporate money review? I personally don't give a crap. Just review the dang vehicle! Edstock
The Home Run mentality, with a GM can do no wrong spin for added flatulence. Best to stay up-wind.
Mark B. Morrow
What do these two "facts" have to do with each other? However, Ford expects to sell only about 100,000 Edges and 30,000 MKXs a year, compared with the 705,980 Silverados and 73,458 Yukons that GM sold last year. That's not enough to reverse the tide of red ink swirling at Ford. The Edge/MKX are not competitors for the Silverado/Tahoe. Ford will sell 850-900k F Series and 50k+ Expys. Why compare Apples and Zucchinis? If Ford sells 130,000 Edge/MKX at retail with 40% conquest sales that is a great success. Edited October 24, 2006 by Mark B. silvrsvt
I have this sneaking suspicion that Edge and MKX will sell well over 130K units a year, if Ford can build that many of them

That is a very low target number. Don't they already have 20,000 orders? Does anyone know how many can be made in the next year if they start flying off of the lots? What is the current capacity? mackinaw
This was a terrible article. Agreed. Phelan normally writes pretty good stuff, but he's way off the mark on this one.

The point was that the vehicles Ford is updating this year are smaller volume sellers than the vehicles Chevy is updating this year -- implying that Chevy's sales will be better next year than Ford's. The overall point of the article is one that Ford has admitted: Market share will probably decline for another year. Maybe, but lets not forget that the siverado and yukon are existing vehicles whereas ford is going to add 130,000 units with all-new vehicles. He shouldn't compare 700,000 to 100,000, he should compare how many more units chevy will sell than the outgoing model. waymondospiff
Phelan is one of the worst auto writers, IMO. This article does nothing to change my opinion. Errors? No all-new 2006 Silverado. Yukon & Tahoe combined aren't shining examples of sales increases. Super Duty doesn't need to worry about the light-duty Tundra as competition. Focus is redone in what, six months? There are more and this was a short article! Scott

Current capacity is a hell of alot more then 130,000 a year but the "Fairlane" is coming on line at the same site by fall '07.
