  1. It's been done before to keep the name plate alive (4 bangers) if need be it should be done again. The current base V6 is not a screamer now and still sells well. If they can up the performace of the current base model AND increase MPG at a competitive price why not do it? The V8 can still be an option on the GT with maybe a twin force V6 standard. And we all have talked about ways to increase the milage of the V8s too. Just keep it cheap and fast for the money Ford! In the long run (2015+) I think calls for a smaller, lighter car are dead on. I have said this before. The current Mustang is too big and heavy to surive in the world of 2020. If Ford does this right they will again be the only American Muscle car standing in 2020 while Camaro again goes out of production and Challenger is but a distant memory.
  2. Yeah! I'm buying a honda instead!!! lol
  3. I was going to post the same thought. Be glad KITT is not some Mitsubishi taken right out of a drifting magazine!!!!!!!
  4. I have an '04 and I think it looks a lot better than the '98s did!
  5. Who really expects Ford and Chrysler to still exist as stand alone companies 10 years from now? At least one of them will be sold, merge, go into bankruptcy, be sold off in pieces, etc. I envision them both shrinking smaller and smaller until they are merged into another company or sold off in pieces.
  6. It's nice that Ford keeps the expensive special editions of the Mustang coming but do they really make money for the company? What about more stuff for the little guy in the under $30K market?! Starting with a better V6 engine! How about more special editions of the V6 and GT like the California Edition? How about offering more customizations right from the dealer for V6s and GTs? This kinda stuff would help keep up the volume of the bread and butter under $30K Mustangs!
  7. All I am saying is extra weight eats horse power. Look at the Charger SRT8 vs. Mustang GT. Dodge has over 100 more HP but is about same on 0-60 times because it weighs like 600 lbs more! Many people on this thead have pointed out that the car's outside dementions could be a little smaller.....
  8. The Mustang did not survive 40+ years by having the most horse power or the meanest sheet metal or the latest technolgy. It survived by giving the customer the most bang for the buck. Yes it needs a new higher HP better MPG V6 yesterday. Yes the GT needs 50 more HP and cylinder deactivation to keep up with the competition. Yes IRS woudl be nice. But no we don't need the V6 to cost $27K and the GT to run $35K. Mustang has almost always cost less than comparably equipped competition. Ford must not lose that edge. If you want IRS offer it on a a model just above the GT, unless you can do it and stay priced well below the GM and Mopar pony cars. I agree with making the car smaller (lighter). Mustangs of the late 80s / early 90s were almost 500 lbs lighter than the current car. You can make up for a lot of horse power simply by shaving a few hundred pounds off the car. See current MOPAR V8 cars for example of what I mean in reverse. Finally, Mustang should go after the youth market more like the imports do with options that apeal to the under 40 crowd. This will sell more cars than a 450 HP IRS limited edition that only 55 year old empty nesters can afford. To summarize keep Mustang what it always has been: small, cheap and fast!
  9. Mercury shoulda, coulda, woulda fit in the same place as Saturn does for GM. Heck, I think many people don't even know Mercury is made by Ford. Looks like the decision has already been made however. I guess Lincoln dealrs better find a Ford dealer to merge with or pick up a deal with some competitor. I can't see most dealerships surviving alone on Lincoln.
  10. All that matters to me is the two cars I have now '04 Taurus and '04 Mustang. Since 2004 over 90K between the two cars. Problems: Zero. Times in the shop besides oil changes and tires: Zero. Granted these are old designs but maybe that is why they are so reliable. Even through three Wisconsin winters.
  11. VW loses money on the plant in Germany where the car is made. http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2006/05/15/006786.html They are considering moving prodution to Mexico. Sounds like any of the big three, huh?
  12. Look better than the Pontiac GM is thinking of bring from Austrialia. Based on the Taurus Ford would have AWD already built in. A V8 option would be good though...
  13. See ya in the ER! Anyone who has a family or others that depend on them should have enough sense to ride on 4 wheels only.
  14. MY '98 NEON R/T modified only with a MORAR cold air intake got 40 MPG from Wisconsin to NE Pensilvainia. Hey old Honda CRXs used to get over 40 MPG in the 80s! The Camry is just HUGE comparied to the cars we are talking about. Size matters!
  15. The article says Honda is paying BELOW the "prevailing wage" of the "local economy". Even the raise in '09 will not bring them up to average manufacturing pay in the area. "$31,000 is nothing to laugh at. But it stands out. Honda's paycheck will trail the $51,000 average wage paid by other Greensburg-area manufacturers." Did you read the article or just spout off your partisan politics?
  16. People who buy panthers don't care about resale value. We all know they have poor resale value. Why start an arguement over the obvious. They buy the car for other reasons. If you don't like the car don't buy one.
  17. No it definately had the word "BOSS" and the number "427" on it.
  18. I am Wisconsin. You never see manufactures plates around here. Had to be some after market custom job I guess.
  19. Saw a NEW yellow Mustang on I94 in Wisconsin with black racing strips. On the front quarter it said "BOSS - 475 HP". It was being followed by a blue late model T-Bird. What was it? Anyone know?
  20. I bought my '04 GT becuase there was no competitiion at the time. I believe the same is true today. What other car has these features: RWD, 2 door, under 30K, V8? Also I wanted something from the Big 3. But even if I open it up to any make, what other cars is there I can buy TODAY like this?!
  21. Saw fist '08 here in Waukesha WI yesterday. A black limited. It looked sweet. I even sped up to get a closer look. I would definately put this on my list to replace my current Taurus.
  22. I expect the base V8 Camaro to be faster than the GT Stang. I was from 92 to 02 wasn't it? But the Camero always cost more than a stang. Also when you consider the Camaro SS you really should be comparing to Mustang Cobra and not GT.
  23. Dont get me wrong I will definatley consider a new Taurus to replace my '04 Taurus when the time comes but, come do we really think any car would have faired much better? Once the cops make a guess how fast he was going, lets crash a new Taurus into post at the same speed. Would be interesting to see how much of the Taurus is left....
  24. How about they bring back AMC! I want a Rambler!
  25. The 2008 Taurus is the logical successor to the Crown vic. The basic FWD model would make a great cab and the 2010 SHO and police package with AWD will be great for performance minded fleet buyers. The 2011 Hybrid model will get great mileage at good price for the environmentally conscious. Get the hint FORD?
