  1. On a more serious note, I think that takes much of the retro out but you still can't mistake it for anything else but a Mustang. They really need to do something like this. I love my Mustang, but I know they are going to need to something else in the future. This is what Porsche has been doing with the 911 and VW with the Golf, new, but instantly recognized!
  2. Newsflash! Scroll down to Dan's next comment! http://www.autoextremist.com/on-the-table1 How does this guy even hold a job?... never mind being the CEO!
  3. Yes. As i said to Richard, I never said that Caddy was great at it... Or good at it for that matter. This is where they planned to go. But whether you like Cadillac or not, they are held in higher regard than Lincoln by the press and most consumers because of that one car, the CTS. Lincoln has a very serious problem to turn around. But seeing how Ford turned itself around, I'm willing to give them a chance with Lincoln.
  4. I never said Caddy was succuessful at being the BMW fighter. GM has often said they wanted to take Cadillac to the level of Mercedes, BMW and the others. The CTS-V is always being reviewed in that light by the auto press. But many of the other products lack that punch and they have no top level car like 7 series or S class. I agree about the SRX. That should have been the Buick and a varsion of the Enclave should have been the Cadillac.
  5. The problem with a gas tax is that it doesn't only affect car buying and usage. If the tax is on fuel, not just gasoline, it will be placed upon diesel whill hurt commerce by making shipping and receiving more expensive. You have to think carefully before resorting to taxes. More taxes can bring in less revenue if it causes the public to spend less as a gas tax is collected by how much you spend.
  6. Buick. With a second luxury brand, GM can make Caddy chase the top brands like MB, Bmw, Jag, and Lexus. Buick can take on Acura, Volvo, Saab (dead issue), and Lincoln.
  7. I remember an interview of Jaques Nasser in Automobile and he made some comments like this about GM and I thought that a CEO shouldn't make asinine comments like that. I also started to think he would make a bad CEO after reading that article and that Ford was crazy for picking him. All I can say is that Akerson will get his when GM wakes up and sees him for the clueless twit that he is.
  8. When I saw this thread I wondered which car was the ugliest. Nissan has quite a few from the new van, Juke, Versa, Quest, Titan, Infiniti QX56, and that terrible new taxi thing based on a van.
  9. Also Buick sells a few thousand more cars than Caddy with half the models. Buick's value luxury pricing seems to hit a sweet spot with GM's fans. I have to admit I do like Buick a lot more than I used to.
  10. And, No I never drove a Bug, but they (1969 not the new one) Seems cool in a beatnic sort of way. And No offence taken so there is no need to forgive.
  11. That's me with my Mustang in the picture to the left. I am a Mustang fan. My point is that I wouldn't pay that much money for a Mustang no matter what they do to it to make it go faster. To me the major draw for a Mustang is how much fun it is for a small entry fee. Paying BMW money for a Mustang kind changes that. Especially if the GT seems to do 90% of what the Shelby does for a lot less money. I don't want a Mustang that costs as much as a BMW, I don't want a BMW, Corvette, Nissan z, or whatever is in that price range I wanted my Mustang and that is what I bought.
  12. I have never driven the GT500. I'm sure I'd enjoy it, but I can't imagine it being good enough to plunk down the kind of cash it would take to buy it. There are just so many other important things in life to pay for... Like my television pilots. (shameless plug)
  13. I would rather buy a normal GT with all that stuff and save a boat load of cash. Spending an extra $20,000 cash to go .000001 of a CH faster than a GT and Carrol Shelby's autograph on the dashboard is insane.
  14. I know I'd look into getting a turbo 4.
  15. And the extra ten pounds is probably the extra cash in the trunk needed to buy the new one over the inflation adjusted old one.
  16. According to those results, Ford of Europe shouldn't be popping champagne corks either. I am really disappointed in that result. That's like your kid bringing home a C- avarage report card. Ford of North America in earning the A average.
  17. As Ford fans, it's hard when you read a bad review on one of the cars we like. But you have to respect other's opinions if you don't like what they're saying. If they are honest, let them speak their mind. (For example James Healy of USA today.) That being said, I do think that Motor trend is overly hostile to Ford these days and I think that they are doing this to be the mag that stands out from the others. All the other magazines seem to be upbeat over all of Ford, so to stand out and get attention you have to be the one that is very vocal in an opposing view. Their views seem to really be out of step with the other members of the press.
  18. The recent rise of Hyundai/Kia is as amazing as the comeback of Ford. Both companies deserve respect.
  19. On the Five Hundred and Montego models, all fwd models had a 6 speed and all the all wheel drives used the CVT. On the Freestyle, all models used the CVT. Only the Freestyle is named. The Taurus X is not and neither is the Five Hundred or Montego. So I can only guess it is only the combo of FWD and CVT that would cause this problem (serious enough to cause an accident).
  20. Re: The table of days of inventory... How the hell can Saab have 141 days of cars when they haven't been making them from the first week of April?!!!
