  1. It’s like Henry Ford said any color as long as its black. Well for standard price it has to be black on black. Any other color is $1k-2k more.
  2. You can’t say gm isn’t doing anything. They are just missing the mark. They can’t seem to get what the market wants. The market is so finicky. Seems like their motto is throw lots of cash and see it if sticks. If that doesn’t work, spend more cash on smear commercials, then throw more money at it. If that’s not right, throw cash on the hoods. Oh yeah, spend millions and years, dating back to EV-1, develop a good plug in hybrid like the volt. Redesign it, oh and cancel it. I just don’t get it. Maybe I’m missing something here.
  3. Because it’s Elon Musk. He’s so over the top. I mean he sent a roadster to orbit! Everything has to be “ludicrous”. It’s the billionaire way.
  4. Disconnect battery for 3 min. Then reconnect and turn vehicle on. Wait 3 mins to reboot and try again. If that works you may need to update the software via thumb drive. If it never recovers, you will have to take it to the dealer to see if the APIM is dead or recoverable.
  5. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.freep.com/amp/3495485002 GM doesn’t understand. You can make the vehicles to show best on paper. But you have to make what people want. It’s all about the market and what people like. Otherwise why would this old low tech heavy vehicle sell so well? I personally like the newest Camaro over the challenger. However, I must be the minority.
  6. I’m glad you are getting assistance. It does suck to have a failure at low mileage but be out of warranty time wise. I’ll say this over and over. Warranties are nothing but an insurance policy. Just like health insurance and automobile insurance. You could have bought an ESP and would have been covered and this not even happen. Like health insurance, if I don’t have it and I need medical attention then I have to pay. I don’t follow all the manufacturers warranty limits. However, I believe most in that class vehicle would be 3/36 bumper to bumper and power train is longer of course. Now step up to a luxury class and it be 4/50. Yet, you are paying for that extra in the MSRP. I bought Premium care on my two vehicles. It was about $1500 for 7/100. I’m sure I can find $1500 worth of repairs within 7 years 100k miles. Unfortunately, $1500 doesn’t go far anymore. One A/C repair can blow past that. Replace a seat track or a window regulator. It doesn’t take long. Or take that $1500 and put it aside towards any repairs. Regardless, I’m glad you are getting your escape fixed and hope no more issues.
  7. They probably do. I just know that bmw does it as I was talking to a BMW guy. We were discussing charge time. Heat is an issue. It was my understanding that just the higher level chargers needing cooling circuits around charge port.
  8. I forgot to add one question in my last post. I know the fast charging generates a lot of heat. My understanding is BMW had to add cooling to the port to keep temperatures down. How much power is lost during fast charging? Since it causes heat to fast charge does that mean there is a considerable amount of loss energy?
  9. Here’s my take on Tesla. I actually like most of the products. I think they have a pretty cool element to them. The running of the company, not so much. Tesla fans act like these cars are the end all be all. When in fact they are a good start. They don’t make money yet, they are expensive as hell to repair, getting parts is limited, Quality is improving, but for $100k vehicle with less moving parts, I expect better. Let these things get in the hands of millions of customers like all other manufacturers and see what happens. There would be tremendous hurdles to overcome. Right now such a relative small sample size that not all circumstances have been real world tested. Would I lease a model S? Yes probably if it fit my needs and I had a service center close by. Do I think Elon musk is a genius that walks on water? No. Does he have guts and can talk people out of their money? Most definitely. I do commend Tesla for what they have accomplished thus far.
  10. The charging times are getting better and better. 35 mins is pretty good. My question is using these batteries so aggressively, will it degrade the life span? Also, what’s the replacement costs? I remember ford using the nicad batteries conservatively to keep life span high. The replacement costs was $7000. I know the new batteries are lithium but anyone has a new battery drill, one min it has power and next it’s done.
  11. My 2015 escape 2.0 AWD does the same thing. My moms 2015 mkx is similar also. Them changing the PTU seal would not affect the control strategy. I’m not sure how accurate that Indicator is. However, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
  12. All I can picture is another villager/Nissan quest. No support. It was difficult enough in the early 90s with Mazda engine controls in probes. Plus you would open ford box and get a Mazda box inside plus twice the price. However as long as its not as bad as Chrysler crossfire. Talk about a mutt. Dodge didn’t want to support it. Mercedes was too snooty to help even though it was a old SLK. I can see it now. Kraut can fusions with torx plus bolts and wiring diagrams with German color abbreviations. Ugh!

  14. Sometimes brake noise is normal. However, I do hate squealing brakes. I put motorcraft pads on the rear of my 13 f150 and they squeal in reverse. I haven’t addressed it yet. If it only does it when damp/cold in reverse occasionally. Ford will probably classify as normal. Page 175 owners manual of a fusion GENERAL INFORMATION Note: Occasional brake noise is normal. If a metal-to-metal, continuous grinding or continuous squeal sound is present, the brake linings may be worn-out and an authorized dealer should check them. If the vehicle has continuous vibration or shudder in the steering wheel while braking, an authorized dealer should check your vehicle. Note: Brake dust may accumulate on the wheels, even under normal driving conditions. Some dust is inevitable as the brakes wear and does not contribute to brake noise. See Cleaning the Wheels (page 281).
  15. What’s everyone’s opinion on the partnership with VW? I know this was discussed a while back. Over the weekend, I decided to play on Netflix and found the show “dirty money” and it was about the VW emissions scandal. We all know Ford has a history, like a lot of big corporations, of being greedy and having a money over morals mindset. However, I’m not sure VW is a great parter. Today this showed up https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/foreign/2019/04/15/volkswagen-fraud-ceo-charges/39346031/
  16. We will see. They couldn’t take a existing corvette chassis add a hard top convertible and thick carpet (xlr) and price it in the 60’s back in early 2000’s. Maybe they will surprise me and it will be amazing. Hopefully, it won’t be another Fiero.
  17. Maybe GM thinks the corvette needs to move up a few notches since the Camaro has been on its heels performance wise for a while. I think they see other companies with a ME supercar and they feel left out. We all know GM has a high school mentality when it comes to ego. However, I’ll be extremely surprised if this thing msrp under 100k. But it’s possible. We will wait and see.
  18. I understand it’s that same in the us. That’s why I said that. However, I don’t see any difference than if I got a Grade F and my friend got an A. If I bought that A off of him. Ironically we are hearing this college admission scandal of celebrities. This seems the same. Plus Tesla has been funding its operations from these credits for a while.
  19. It’s all about the money. I’m not a conspiracy theorists but I understand where the ideas come from. Situations like these, money changes hands and all is forgiven.
  20. https://f01.justanswer.com/apjp02/b659e16b-c154-4163-98ee-149c7a2c7d54_2.pdf Check the pins in the voltage regulator for spread apart or corrosion. Also. Follow the battery cable from the alternator to the battery. Check the tightness and condition of the cable and ends. Also check the black connector on battery cable going to alternator. That’s what the tsb describes. That alternator is pcm controlled. Check those wires from the voltage regulator to the pcm for chafing also.
  21. I agree. I’ve seen two silverados out and the front is just off. Rest of the the truck looks like a Chevy. Like you, I’ve seen several rams, which look pretty good. Something I’m seeing more and more of are raptors. They are all over. Wish I could get one, but too much money for me. My 13 fx4 is paid for with only 58k miles. So I’ll ride it for a while.
  22. Can’t wait to check it out. I was always amused when older Lincoln owners that bought the upgraded JBL audio systems in town cars and navigators, would turn the bass and treble all the way down. Plus, they would turn the balance and fader to the back. Of course it was 570am too.
  23. Strut bearing normally make a popping or creaking sound no matter the position. Just anytime turning. I would suspect the lower control arms as the most likely culprit. It could be the busing that’s on the opposite end of the arm. Not the ball joint side but the subframe side. I’ve seen plenty of techs change both control arms per side. That can be a hard noise to pinpoint from front arm or rear arm. By the way those suck just an FYI. The ballpoint press to get them out is about useless. They have sleeves that are in the knuckle and sometimes the sleeves come out with the ball joint and sometimes they stay in. If the sleeve stays in, that’s the best way because it’s easy to put back together. If the sleeve comes out with ball joint, you will have to get the sleeve back in. However, since you would be replacing them, it won’t matter if you damage the old joints getting them out.
  24. I have a different outlook on these types of roof systems, working on them. These things are customer service nightmares. If you live in sunny California or somewhere that’s mostly dry, fine. But any adverse conditions, will affect these things in a negative way. Customers don’t Understand the limits these things have. Under the right situation it will leak. Open air roofs have come a long way, but that jeep picture, is nothing more than a truck soft tonneau cover pulled over a hole in the roof. I hope Ford will at least put drainage systems in the floor to let any leakage from trough escape floor pan.
  25. Like tbone said. If you have a good loyalty score, Ford will more than likely assist with the repair. I would be surprised if they didn’t. Go ask the dealer nicely if you could get some after warranty assistance with this huge repair bill.
