  1. I just got the latest issue of Hemmings Classic Car yesterday. In the "Recap" section (responses to stories), a subscriber mentioned GM did similar with Chrysler back in the '30s. It seemed the all-steel Airflow worried GM, so they had literature or films produced that showed a thin, mild-steel tube being bent by hands. Then, they showed the tube with a wood dowel inserted in it, which naturally made the tube stiffer. In response, Chrysler made a film showing an Airflow rolled down (IIRC) a ~100' deep pit mine wall and subsequently driven away with little damage.
  2. I haven't seen the video nor need to after reading comments. This is like the story where LBJ tells someone to spread a rumor that his opponent has sex with hogs. The aide said nobody much will believe it, and LBJ replied "I know; I want to see them deny it". Way to go, GM; lead from behind. Throw out some fantastic scenario and watch the opposition scramble for cover.
  3. I don't think Pioneer is disputing the steel-aluminum welding claim, just the aluminum spot-welding claim he quoted from the article.
  4. I know it's impractical to offer all the choices of the past, but I would like to see two interior colors offered on XL.
  5. I noticed in the cab-chassis order guide under Major Product Changes>Functional>Upgraded Alternator Offerings that it shows a 240 amp alternator for the 3.2 in XLT/Lariat. However, I didn't see the engine offered. Is that a misprint and it should be 6.2L?
  6. That looks like some of the roads around here (Texas) from the shale field activity.
  7. Sorry to see that; they were going to be built close by. I know it wouldn't have meant many jobs, but this area is reeling from the free-fall in oil prices.
  8. This truck's raison d'être is staked entirely on the CTD. That's good enough for some, and Fred Diaz surely knows that from his time at Dodge. Before the CTD, Dodge trucks in Texas were nothing more than government fleet vehicles and the rare choice for quirky people.
  9. I guess it's how you look at it, but I took it as they tacitly acknowledged their previous model failure and more carefully studied the competition. GJ, Nissan. Still wouldn't want one.
  10. Great article and comments. I remember the tipping point in GM/China relations, but most don't know/care/believe it.
  11. Personally, I don't think Ford needs to match Ram CTD numbers, although it's been done before. Wasn't it ~ a year after 6.7 PSD intro that Ram upped the TQ and there was a re-flash offered to match numbers? But look at this review http://www.autoguide.com/manufacturer/ram-manufacturers/2016-ram-3500-hd-review To read the article, that particular Ram powertrain isn't happy at those FCA numbers.
  12. Fair enough. Well, I could understand an update since Ram CTD now have a 900 ft/lb tq engine rating-albeit in only RC 4X2/Aisin. Or something larger for medium duties. But outright replacement of the 6.7 PS? Hmm ...

  14. I agree. It seems the only rationale is the analyst's "stranger things have happened" line.
  15. http://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/chrysler/2015/06/18/fiat-chrysler-fca-marchionne-gm-general-motors-merger/28853709/ Mergio is hell-bent on a shotgun wedding, but I'm not seeing this. What do y'all think?
  16. ^The grille and headlights look advanced compared to the rest of the car. Looking at it straight on, there's much similarity to ca. 2006 Bentleys IMO. But Bentley would never..um..take inspiration from others' designs, would they?
  17. I've thought much the same. Establishing the generic "Ram" brand only facilitates a third party purchase.
  18. It's not even out and it already looks dated-interior and exterior.

  20. Everything old is new again. I like seeing little things like this that are relatively inexpensive yet make outsized impressions.
  21. Y'all think this is just copy/paste of Modine's specs, or does this hint at potentially a manual transmission?
  22. I'm already on record as liking Cosmopolitan. I like the idea of Constellation..even better with a fiber optic headliner like R-R has Didn't Packard try to source bodies from Lincoln Division prior to merging with Studebaker?
