Any word if there will be any updates for my 2015 Expedition to some of the features of Sync 3?
-
The sales problem with the Expedition is based on the fact that it is more truck than people realize. I own a 2015 Limited and traded a 2008 F250 for it and could not be more pleased. Most people just want a status symbol that looks utilitarian. They don't tow or haul a lot, but want the appearance that they do. From a performance standpoint, this vehicle can not be beat as a compromise vehicle. It tows and hauls with the best of them (half ton pickups) and can take more people comfortably A to B with a reasonable fuel burn.

I have 2015 Expedition Limited 4x4 with 3.31 gears, and it does a good job towing at altitude. Torque is where it's at! Towing needs torque to produce a reasonable result, and any turbo enabled engine can outperform a normally aspirated one at altitude. For that matter at any altitude. I have the new load leveling option, and I can find no fault in its operation. The previous model used air bags that were prone to failure over time. My brother had an Eddie Bauer model 4x4 with it, and it failed after about 8 years of use.

Yes, but it was a 1999 model, so that would not be a good comparison. Since then I have owned 2 F250 Super Duty's. This truck will do everything that the previous vehicle accomplished, but more efficiently. I drove many variants of the 5.4l V8 in pick ups and in Expeditions. I found it to be anemic and rather dull, but very reliable. I believe the Ecoboost is the most important addition, as I stated previously, but if you want the next generation with its amenities, then wait.
-
Makes sense! I have a 2015 Expedition and could not be happier with the choice. The EcoBoost engine was the deciding factor to not wait. I do not believe you will achieve astronomical fuel savings with the aluminum version over the current model. This was evidenced with the release of the F150. If you want other amenities not offered now, then lease as mentioned before. This is a good truck with a lot of practical value for modern day use.

Maybe they just had a lot of limited slip rears in inventory or not being used in pickups.

Ecoboost Real World Numbers
ajvolpe replied to Bob Rosadini's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
What I have observed of the driving public is most alarming from a practical standpoint. Jack-rabbit starts and staying on the accelerator until you are 100 feet from a stop sign or red light, is the norm. Also, the meaning of speed limit is totally misunderstood. Legally it is the maximum speed your are supposed to achieve, not the minimum. Whether you are in an NA vehicle or an Ecoboost, does not matter. What is worse, is that young drivers are given this as an daily example of how to drive, and perpetuate this stupidity. Couple this with all the modern distractions such as cellphones and social media, you have a recipe for low efficiency. We are taking driving for granted, like tying our shoes, and are not involved in the process, hence inefficiency and accidents. I have 2015 Expedition Limited 4x4, and have averaged 19.5 mpg(observed) over the previous 1000 miles. Granted, I try to enlist basic conservation techniques, and have not exceeded 70 mph during interstate driving. I believe that we are our own worst enemy in the effort to achieve published EPA numbers, and choose to blame the manufacturer and government for lack of understanding. -

2015 Expedition Refresh Missed Opportunities/Details
ajvolpe replied to WillieFlo's topic in Expedition Forum
The question for any buyer should be, "What are you buying it to do?". If you want a truck, buy a truck. If you want a car, buy a car. Practicality and utility should be the watch words which are foremost in the truck/Suv market. I know that manufactures make good profit from upscaling all their vehicles with gingerbread and such, but you can get those things a lot cheaper in a sedan vs. a truck platform. I believe people want themselves perceived by what they drive more than how they are and how they treat others. -

Theoretically everyone is at least playing by the same rules, so hats off to Ford. If one team was allowed to compete differently, or do whatever they want, the results would not be competitive.

ford to cut global platforms to 8
ajvolpe replied to silvrsvt's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
I believe it will happen in the interest of economy and scale. Honda and Toyota have done this and I'm sure that Ford will too soon. -
I bought one in 2010 for my son's college graduation. It gas been a great ride coupled with reliability I would not expect from this level car. Buy the way, it's the same color as yours. Good luck!

I believe that the only difference in suspension of the 250 vs. 350 is a spacer of approximately 1 1/2" in the rear springs. Might be cheaper to just buy the part(spacer) from Ford, and have it installed along with the appropriate shocks etc.

Ford Pickups Face Probe After Stranding Drivers
ajvolpe replied to blwnsmoke's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
Obviously the problem with this engine as well as my 6.4l, is emission hardware. It is the weakest point in an otherwise great powertrain. Software initiates regen's on mine all too often and at the worst possible times. During this process, it destroys fuel efficiency accumulated by driving frugally. -
