  1. Honda has always alternated between revolutionary and evolutionary with successive generations of Civic. 11th gen is clearly evolutionary. Some people might find the styling of new Civic boring compared to 10th gen, that is true. But the 11th gen car still looks way better than any of Honda's crossovers. We'll have to wait for 3rd party road test reviews to confirm that the engineering excellence in 10th gen Civic hasn't been watered down in 11th gen, but I don't think 11th gen will be the disaster than the 1st year of 9th gen was.
  2. Thank you Harley Lover sir for clarifying the situation regarding Ford's battery production capabilities. I agree this was a major mistake by Jim Hackett, probably the biggest one in his career as Ford CEO. Building the vertical integration in battery systems including cells, packs/assemblies, software, etc. that Ford needs ASAP is going to be tough, especially as Ford's competitors forge ahead in this area. Ion Park Lab is a step in the right direction, but Autoextremist is definitely correct that right now "Not Good for Ford is the inescapable conclusion".
  3. Yes sir. The definition of "multicultural" in the Honda press release comes from IHS Markit, which also uses the word "ethnic" to describe the group. IHS Markit's definition of "multicultural" or "ethnic" in this context is Asian, Native American, Hispanic and African American car buyers. In other words, car buyers who aren't non-Hispanic whites.
  4. Autoextremist talked about Ion Park in his rant this week. This is one of the few times the rant is actually valid and logical.

  9. FordBuyer sir, have government officials in Florida thought about implementing ZEV mandates similar to California's or Washington State's? Florida is the 3rd largest market for new car and light truck retail sales in the U.S., so any actions Florida takes to de-carbonize transportation there would be very good.

  12. Yes sir LookingToBuyAFord. The "SUV inspired" styling elements for Carnival are silly and contrived. Also, Kia Motors America's use of "MPV" rather than minivan to describe the vehicle in its marketing materials is silly as well. If you can get past those 2 items, Kia Carnival has a lot of substance, including the most spacious interior among all minivan models currently offered in the U.S. market.

  17. Ford is almost certainly working on a BEV version of Bronco.
  18. Good one tbone sir. Hopefully drivers won't get the idea that it's OK to consume booze while their BlueCruise equipped Ford vehicle operates in a "Blue Zone". ?
  19. Yes sir, that is what's meant by the minimum investment necessary by automakers to complete the product cycles for current ICE powered vehicles over the next few years. The investments will be mainly tweaks here and there to ensure those ICE powered vehicles meet new regulations. Starting around 2030, bans on the sale of new ICE powered vehicles will go into effect worldwide.
  20. At this point, automakers are only going to invest the minimum necessary for current ICE vehicles (including hybrids and PHEV) to meet regulatory requirements and complete their product cycles. Any capital deployed to new vehicle projects and associated services will be based on the global automotive industry's future of 100% electric vehicles, 100% autonomous vehicles, and shared mobility systems.
  21. For passenger cars and light trucks, BEV is the most viable ZEV type. Hydrogen fuel cells may make sense for certain commercial and military applications, otherwise they're "fool cells".
  22. Ford Motor Company and UAW do too. They specifically mentioned CDC guidance that "getting vaccinated in combination with other recommendations issued results in the best protection against COVID-19" and are actively encouraging UAW represented Ford employees to get vaccinated if medically able.
  23. Governors of 12 U.S. states wrote a letter to President Biden today requesting federal government support for ZEV mandates, bans on the sale of new ICE powered vehicles, and other regulatory actions that promote sustainability for both passenger cars/light trucks and commercial vehicles.
