EAST AFRICAN SAFARI CLASSIC RALLY DAY THREE

http://www.eastafricansafarirally.com/index.htm

Bjorn Waldegard/Mathias Waldegard in Fords humble little RS1600 Escort leads East African Rally after day three despite the seven Porsche 911s still left in the rally which have a massive straight line top speed advantage over the Escort. Ford still have 3 cars in the top 7 after 3 days of the gruelling rally. Results after day three.

Fords tough little Escorts made it home 1st & 2nd on day four, but there is still a long way to go between now and the finish with a gaggle of 5 awesome Porsche 911s hot on their tail its far from yet in the worlds toughest motorsport event.

That shows how far out of step you are then. Verve does possibly sound feminine, but certainly not like an old persons diaper.

No, it shows how IN STEP I am, after all, I live in Los Angeles, not some igloo in the frozen tundra where you reside.

I can just hear it now (Imagine old ladies playing bingo in the park) "Ever since I stared wearing my Verve's, I feel like I have freedom again!"...

Just because Ford used the name for a concept, does not mean they HAVE to use it for the production car, ford has used Fiesta for decades in Europe and built up great name recognition, no reason to throw that away. And if they use a different name, my God there are plenty of others that are much much better.

Is there some rule somewhere stating that whatever Ford says or does becomes gospel?

Call it the fiesta, call it the Reflex, call it the Escort, call it the Comet, but for God's sake, save that horrible "verve" for womens magazines, Oprah Winfrey, and senior diapers.. :stop:

Ok. I'll say it now. I hate the name Fiesta. If Ford uses it I'll still hate it. I also hate the Name Escort. Also, I do not live in an igloo on the Tundra.....though it is very cold here right now. For many months of the year, I live in one of the greenest, cleanest cities in NA. I has in many parts a very European attitude. I think that is part of the reason that I see so many C30s here in the south end.

Except for a certain meaning of Escort, I think it's a great name.

Fiesta is nice.

Verve is DO NOT WANT.

I don't think it will be Fiesta because I don't think Fields and Mulally want to be accused of continuing the 'F' naming convention.

I think it was Mulally that said it sounded to him like whenever they needed to name a new car they just went to the dictionary under 'F' and picked a name.

I think it needs a new, different name (that doesn't start with a F).

I could live with Fiesta....I do prefer Verve though. Escort definitely not. Not not not not not not not!!!!!!

I'm for the Fiesta or the Escort. No Verve. It gets on my last Nerve ending... :stirpot:

I don't care if Mulally or McAllen or the Toyota grand master likes Verve. Register the name, sell it to that French owned Asian car company! Besides, Nissan needs a new name for their latest ugly offering and they need a name to go with it!

To me, the name Fiesta has been around so long that it's as familiar as any other Ford name, and I like it, Verve makes me think of the Johnny Cash song a boy named sue, "And if I ever have a son, I think I'm gonna name him

Bill or George! Anything but Sue!"!!

Anything but Verve! :hysterical:

Too bad Fiesta makes BOFers think Mexico.

I don't know why, since it's used in Europe it makes me think more along the lines of a big party in Spain..

Now Toyota makes me think of Mexico with all their feminine Hispanic sounding names, I'm waiting for them to introduce the Toyota Guadalajara someday...
