Mullaly: Gas Tax Worth Exploring

Recommended Posts

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pretty much make it possible for mortgage banks/lenders to have money available to lend to borrowers for mortgages. The pooling of mortgage loans into securities for investors to buy into is a huge engine in our economy. A bank lends money for a mortgage to a customer; the bank sells the debt to an investor like Fannie or Freddie who securitizes it on the open market; the bank once again has money to lend to the next customer. Fannie's and Freddie's income is moderate relative to the size of the portfolios they manage.

The large banks like CitiGroup, BofA, JPMorganChase, etc, earn a significant portion of their income in Investment and Institutional business, rather than in the Retail (Consumer) business.

What is their accounting scandal up to now? The biggest money managers and they are both so corrupt that the US Public could have to bail them out. Savings and Loans mean anything to you? And they want to put even more trillions of $'s in their hands.

The Feds make it possible to loan money that does not exist. But go on and keep believing that we need $400k in credit to buy houses that used to cost $50k not that long ago. They love people that fully believe in their system. And that is just it. It is Their system.

How else does a 1200' sq house in Sacramento Ca sell for $350k in a generic neighborhood with horrible schools when only 10 years previously it went for $80k? Could have something to do with corrupt realtors, appraisers, money lenders, all enabled by the even more corrupt banking system.

Start at the beginning. Where the money originates from.

I like open space. I'm not moving into the city no matter how desirable the neighborhood is.

well work from home or pay the price fo your commute.

owning a 3000 sq/ft home on a 1 acre lot may be the American dream. but there are consequences, that we, Americans pay for all that open space.

BTW without CAFE alot of this urban sprawl would not have happened.

Why then are these cars not sold here?

Ford has been working hard on new designs for the Ford Fiesta that might be sold into the States. I have got to say it looks like its going to be a bit of a hit, most motoring journalists are getting very excited with some of the concepts Ford are putting out at the moment. Most are saying it one of the most exiting Ford conceptions to come for decades, nobody really gets excited about Fiestas they are good cars but not very exciting. But they like this one that might be ready for the Frankfurt motor show they are saying it has the potential to knock the Peugeot 207 of the top spot in Europe. So l hope Ford do it, there are a couple of concepts, l am not personally keen on the one with basking shark like big grill, but the other model looks like it could be a big hit.

Its great to see Ford getting back into building exciting cars again, hope they make it back to number 1 in Europe and the US. If they start to do more cars like the new Fiesta, l don't think it will be to long.

I can't wait for Ford NA to adopt Kinetic Design, at least I hope they do!

Well done. Spoken like a real ultra liberal socialist resource controller.

So, your way or the highway huh? Maybe you can just pass a law that forces all people to live within a few miles of work so they wont need cars and can ride bikes? Oh, better yet, force companies to provide on site apartments. Ahhhh, the communist dream...

Yea, screw that American Dream. Lets be like other countries that have no dreams, hopes, aspirations, success stories, growth, jobs, food, etc. Of course we need to get rid of that stupid US Constitution first. Then your communist utopia can start to come to life. Are you going to model it after Cuba, Russia, or China?

Lets hope you are right Nick, everything environmental seems to be a cash magnet for the Governments of Europe they have struck a new gold here.

Funny thing though Nick nobody knows what they are doing with the revenue, the environment is the only place revenue it is not ending up at. Another strange, but true story from the EU.

I just hope you are not as daft as us Europeans in the US, and don’t roll over and accept the biggest ever-new tax con trick. I Still agree though with Alan Mullaly that we are under valuing oil at the moment, we should be doing more conserve what oil we have now, without being beaten with a tax stick to do so, maybe need a tax rebate carrot is needed as well. But it’s all a one-way tax stick at the moment.

We don't have much in the way of dreams to look forward to in Europe you are right, what jobs are left, are getting exported to China sometime in the near future or some other lowest common wage denominator. But Fords new Fiesta concepts looks very exciting, not like the normal average boring bland rubbish that has been making folk anti-car in Europe for sometime now. Folk might re-engage with Automotive Engineering, rather than want to see it removed from the streets of Europe.

Ford have planted some green seeds of change with its new concept Fiesta, l hope its a big success for Ford, the motoring press seem to think its an exciting step in the right direction. Communist and dream are two words that don't mix well, communist nightmare hell are words that fit well together. Mind you l would not mind a trip to Cuba, not to see Cuba, just to see loads of those old Motown Monsters still prowling the streets of Havana everywhere there, Automotive heaven.

I understand. it really does suck. but there isn't much we can do about it. We must our society or it will be changed for us.

whether we tax it or not gas prices will continue to rise. and much like the price of health care, it will be a non government tax on our economy.

I never put any stock in the "There isn't much we can do about it." crowd, they are always wrong.

There is no such thing as a hopeless situation biker, only hopeless people. This is our world, our society, our government, our economy and our laws. We do with them as we see fit and don't throw up our hands and consider ourselves subjective slaves to them. Where do people like you come from? My God you are a pathetic drone.

That is really a depressing thing to hear. Poland's economy is soaring. Want to be a Polish citizen? Probably not? Ireland? Scandinavian countries economies are very strong. But all of those are also very protective and not easy to immigrate to AND get employed.

You know, you would think Canada would love to have US citizens move there. But they are as bad as any other country. To get in you almost have to show proof that you will not stay more than a few weeks. Try and immigrate to NZ. Talk about impossible.

But here in the US you can walk and illegally, then sue the govts for not taking care of you. Hold anti American rallys and all sorts of other things and Never have to worry about being deported. Its crazy!

That fiesta looks really amazing. Why they do not build a few cars that are over the edge like that I do not know? Every company should build a couple cars that look 10 years a head of their time. Something cool! My only concern is how small and safe it can be. I really do not feel safe in anything smaller than a Fusion sized car. Especially with my kids.

Cuba? I would love to go there. Just like I would like to visit a 100 places. But it takes a lot of $ to travel. But Cuba is beautiful. And yes, it would be pretty neat to see all those old cars. They keep making them into boats to escape though, so I am not sure how many are left. ;) I am not even sure how Cuba survives. If it were not for a bunch of socialist leaning Central and South American leaders they would have it much tougher.

Peace and Blessings

Too funny. A club of two. And Al Gore makes 3.

Riddle me this -

How can we destroy the world with global warming, when we will run out of fossil fuels before we can destroy the world with global warming? Which one is it? Are we going to destroy the world through Global Warming over the next century or two or are we going to run out of fossil fuels in the next few decades?

Maybe Al Gore can get two different graphs to show how this will be done? He can hoist himself up on a fire engine's ladder and supper impose the two graphs on a drive in theater screen showing how? One graph can under express the fossil fuels available and the other can over express the chances of global warming. Each can be based upon a model with a +/- 3000% error rate.

Al Gore's attempt to stay relevant is to cause mass hysteria. And make billions of dollars off of it.

Lies and deceit.

Wrong again genius.

Climate scientists seemed unprepared for (or perhaps just blasé about) the media backlash after a correction to a NASA analysis stripped 1998 of its title as the hottest year on record in the U.S. That dubious honor was rightly returned to 1934, the year the infamous dust bowl devastated the Midwest. Climate data dabbler Steven McIntyre of Toronto, formerly a mining executive with the Northwest Exploration Company, Ltd., alerted agency scientists of the error after spotting it earlier this month while sifting through recent NASA records of temperature anomalies.

From the Scientific American.

One of these days Biker you're going to wake up and quit being a gutless butt puppet for the damned government buddy. I guess it was all those millions of SUV's on the interstate highways that made 1934 so hot right?

Global Warming hysteria shot down, again, for the millionth time. Wake up.

" Whoops! NASA off by decades on hottest year

Hank Aaron wasn't the only one to lose his record last week amid swirling controversy. Apparently a NASA team overestimated the average 1998 temps by 0.06 degree Fahrenheit, making 1934 the new hottest year title holder by a slim 0.04-degree margin. The correction caused a veritable heat wave of excitement among conservative commentators, but NASA researchers brushed it off, noting that average global temperatures are still on an unprecedented upswing. (NASA update; Steven McIntyre's blog)"

don't spin it just post it. BTw that doesn't include global temps.

We're worried about car C02 emissions and China is bringing 500 power plant units on line in the next 5 years.

That's one every 4 days - talk about pissing into the wind!

I do know about that .

what can we do to help ourselves and the chinese to grow in a more sustainable way?

devleop the green technolgy to reduce consumption and sell it to the chinese and put americans to work.

not complain about what they are doing to prevent a civil war.

Uh, how is not including the little bullshit part about Hank Aaron spin exactly? It was not needed to make the point. If I was really trying to spin anything why would I give you a link to go look at? Think about it Biker. Of course as expected you find a way not to agree with the data with this "oh that's not global temps" nonsense. But I guess that's not spin. lol At any rate, there's no since turing this all into a global warming debate. In the end you'll be just as wrong about that as you are for supporting the notion of a tax hike in gas and just about everything else you've posted in this thread.

I will go tell the IPCC, the Royal society, The Acadamy of sciences, The Meteorological society, NASA , The National Oceanic Atmosphric administration, etc. that Blackhorse is calling bull on Anthropogenic climate change. Thanx for setting us straight Blackhorse!

I will also e mail Steven Hawking, he stated last year that we should be looking for another planet to live on, I will send him this link, I am sure he will be relieved when he reads blackhorse's post's!
