Bagrah01
The Murano is stunning all right! They screwed up a nice smooth design (I thought it was one of the nicest crossovers out there). The face only an orthodontist could love (including cotton in the cheeks). If the Vensa is based on a 3 year old design that predates the Edge, when was the Edge show vehicle? What took them so long? The show car grill looked a LOT better. It's basically a Camry wagon underneath. I don't think the Edge is slipping at all. The 7 passenger Flex will be out soon, the Venza is 5 passenger (no third row). The Highlander is Toyota's 7 Passenger CUV not the Venza and the Highlander was #1 in December. Bagrah01
Sales of the Edge are slipping? That's news, is there some sort of trend? Yes the Highlander was the best selling mid-sized CUV of December. Although it was introduced in October slow sales start was due to ramp up of production. I believe they're selling like hotcakes now, at the Edges expense. I believe this trend will continue with the introduction of the New Murano, Pilot, and aforementioned Venza and Flex. It is most likely at the expense of the Rav4 and also is made up of old Highlander owners.

timmm55
Edge 13,722 2,201 523.4 130,125 HIGHLANDER 14,714 11,700 25.8 127,878 The Edge is leading the Highlander for the year, the Highlander has a 1008 unit lead for December. Since the Highlander seats 7 and has a 4 cylinder standard is it a valid comp. anyway?

timmm55
Edge - 14,133 Highlander - 9,558 Edge - 12,594 Highlander - 12,312 Ford Edge - 13,722 - 130,125 Toyota Highlander - 14,714 - 87,718 (Snatching the "best-selling Midsize CUV" crown back from the Edge.) OK so the Highlander beat out the Edge in December.......slightly different numbers from what I found. What I'm saying demand for the Edge will most likely go down as newer competition, (Flex, Murano, Pilot, Venza, etc.) comes online and recession fears give pause to buyers, December is the beginning. BTW Tim a Highlander comes with the 3.5 V6 Standard and only optional powertrain is the hybrid synery drive.

Yes, the highlander was UP....but the Edge was not DOWN. Also, Toyota is not immune to the possible impending/already here recession. Actually toyota is well cushioned. Plenty of cash, new product (gas efficient vehicles at that), blah, blah, blah. I know its sickening but it fact. I know its sickening but it fact. I don't think that was the poster's point. Toyota, nor is any other manufacturer, immune to a downturn in the US Economy. Regardless as to how much cushion Toyota has, if consumers don't have the cash to spend they won't. We shall see how much of an impact the Highlander has on the market. It is entirely too early to tell.
rmc523
Looks like someone took a Camry, Edge and Taurus X and put it into a blender...total rip off of the Ford Tri-bar grill and its a fucking station wagon not a god damn sedan! http://jalopnik.com/344234/detroit-auto-sh...crossover-sedan I think it's ugly for the most part. I think on a side profile view, from the b-pillar back looks ok, but the front is ugly. The rear looks like it belongs on a Volvo to me. rmc523
I don't find the nose very appealing. I still don't care for the Ford Tri-Bar all that much. But this is just plain ugly. Reminds me of a cheese grater. On the interior, WTF were they thinking with the shifter? Looks like someone took a dagger, jabbed it into the center console and called it the Shifter! Where's King Arther to pull that sucker out... I agree, that shifter placement is horrible. Did you notice as well, the horrible quality plastic they used around the push button starter and to the left of the shifter? The only comparison of plastics that's close to those plastics that I can think of is the stuff they make artificial legs out of (for the calves), or maybe some kid's toy or legos or something. rmc523
total rip off of the Ford Tri-bar grill Well, I guess they had to copy the design of the vehicle that's outselling it's own beloved Highlander. It appears they also copied Ford's stepped or step down headlights. Edited January 16, 2008 by rmc523
rmc523
Other than the questionable interior center console design, think its quite hansome, however I also think the Highlander and Murano are absolutely stunning. On a side note, the Venza is based on the Toyota FT-SX concept that debuted at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show, pre-dating the Ford Edge. I hope Ford can withstand the one-two punch (Highlander and Venza) of Toyota, let a long pile on by Nissan and Honda. Sales for the Edge are already slipping and when is the Flex going to be available at dealerships? I think the Murano is ugly, it's interior is nice though. The Highlander, to me, is ok, not great, but ok. This Venza (what kind of name is that?) is ugly to me, except on a side profile from the b-pillar back. Pile on from Honda? With what? Pilot? The current one is dying and the concept/prototype is ugly. Sales for Edge slipping? Remember the market is shrinking, as well. Flex will be available sometime this summer, from what I understand, along w/ MKS.

retropia
I like the Venza, a lot. I don't need three-row seating, but I need wagon utility. Since no one is making a Milan wagon, a Camry wagon, an Accord wagon or a Malibu wagon, this is the closest thing to fit my needs. I'm tired of crossovers that look like trucks or SUVs. ANTAUS
"creates a unique 60/60 design that gives both driver and front passenger the look and feeling that 60 percent of the IP is accessible from their seating position." Looks like from either seat, you can only get to 60% of the controls alright...wonder what was wrong with 100%...
