Mercury C-Max

Just a hunch here, but for some reason, I think the traditional waterfall Mercury grille as we know it has seen the end of its days. It may stick around in some way or another, but I'm guessing it's going to look radically different going forward. It just doesn't seem like the overall shape and style will adapt too well to the vehicles we know are coming. While this example doesn't look bad, I think something a bit more "kinetic", for lack of a better word, would fit better. Something with more sharp angles or curves would probably fit the overall future design direction better.

^ imho the vertical slats are fine (actually near perfect ;))

but the grille opening is too square

yet an angular/sharp shape is more for Lincoln

so it has to be rounded a bit...

ie "the Mercury Smile"

That could be it also. Or maybe build in some sort of curve into the slats from top to bottom instead of side to side, if that makes sense. Something that makes it look like more than a polished sewer grate.

The waterfall design is and has been a motif for 30 years now! (67 Cougar)

And in other iterations it has been fine. I just don't like the current grille with its thicker, wider-spaced, ultra-perpendicular look.

Harken back to the Messenger concept for an effective modern application of the motif:

The waterfall is still there in the headlights, it's just completely different.
